Is there any difference between the original retail version which I still have and the GOG version? I remember having an issue getting the game to work on my Win 7 x64 so if that's the big difference, then that's good enough for me!

This version runs fine in Win7 x64, i have the steam version that plays fine, so this one from GOG should be based on the digital versions that already exists in other online services.
The CD version as bugs, because of the instalation processes and the lack of finding the latest patches.
Wasn't it something to do with the lightning in some areas? I'd heard that even the Steam version was having issues with that on Windows 7.

Can someone confirm any of this?

Hey there is a way to fix the problem with the lighting. Theres a part of the config file that needs fixing. I'll do my best to find the info regarding this problem.
Hey, regarding no shadows in Splinter Cell. It's because of a typo in the ini file.

"First open up my computer and then go:- C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\splinter cell\system. In the directory, below the .exe should be a .ini file - open it.

Now - scroll down to the [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] header (use ctrl + f to find it) and look for the line that says this:

; ForceShadowMode flag : 0==projector, 1==buffer, unspecified==auto-detect
-->;ForceShadowMode=0

remove the semicolon shown by the arrow above just before the ForceShadowMode=0 and then save and close the file. This _SHOULD_ fix the problem when you restart steam and then launch the game again."

Awesome, thanks for the info everyone!
so the GoG version still has the lighting issues?
guess i'll stick to my originals then :p
i was thinking they'd have somehow fixed those by default as they've done with other games known problems (such as Wing Commander 4 DVD editions video playback issue requiring the defunct hardware..)

Even if it does, it would take a couple of seconds to open up the file and delete that one ";" to make the shadows work properly... it's not hard dude.

My cd copy has the same problem, so it wouldn't make a difference either way.

hence why i'm in no hurry to get another version :p
since i'd have to fix it anyways, i'll stick to my CD/STEAM copies.

Does your steam version work fine? The menu on mine always behaved funny.
Does this work for Pandora Tomorrow as well? Is it the same problem? I've never noticed a problem with the lighting in Splinter Cell. Can you describe where I might look for it at?

No, it doesn't work for PT.

I can second that. It doesn't work for Pandora Tomorrow, there isn't any way i've found to get that game working properly on modern hardware. If GoG can somehow fix that game i'd certainly rebuy it here. I was thinking of buying the HD ports on PS3 just to play it again properly, but evidently UBI botched those pretty badly and the frame rates are horrible.
