Thanks to the lovely efforts of Dege on dgVoodoo2, Splinter Cell is full playable with the buffer shadows working as they should. It should be noted that this fix is still WIP, but from what I have played I have not noticed anything odd so I felt it should be shared from the Vogons forums:

http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=517631#p517631

Download is in the post and YOU WILL need a GPU that can handle DirectX11 for the wrapper.

OMG, this is great, thanks for posting!

Dont want to sound annoying, but could you be so kind and post a tutorial on how to get it running right?
Thanks :)

It also says i can run MAFIA1 with this?
Does Pandora Tomorrow work too?

*insert sound of Fisher taking a medkit*

This is great news. Finally the PC version takes back the top spot as the best version of the game.

Add in the PS3 textures that have been converted from the HD trilogy and you have a better HD remaster than that.

Might do a video tutorial, but to answer the Pandora Tomorrow question, seems to work fine with that too since it uses the same buffers from the range of cards that they were designed for.

Gave it a go, works amazingly well! only bug i found was some "lines" in the water in the old rig level.
Thus far it looks exacly like i remember playing it back in the day! This is magic, never thought i'd see the day buffershadows would come back

Tried a bit on Pandora, seems to be working fine there too.
how does one use this?

Download the latest version of Dgvoodo2 from their website

Copy Paste the dlls from the folder that says "MS" and the setup .exe in you main game directory (the one where the games .exe is located should be system/offline)

Run Setup exe from there, and add the game, press the button that says ".\"

In GENERAL, i have the options like this

Output = best one
Adapter=your card
display = default
appearance= fullscreen/centered

All boxes unticked EXCEPT, keep window ratio and capture mouse

Ignore Glide, nothing to use there

In DirectX i have

card=GeForce4 VRAM 200mb
Resolution= your resolution

All these options ticked

Force bilinear
Force Linear mip
App controlled fullscreen
Disable alt-Enter
AA= 0 - Dont put it higher cause it will break the water shaders.
Force VSync -> Optional, i personally use Vsynch in old games, high framerates cause problems in my experience

Everything else unticked.

Then run the game as you normally do from your .exe/desktop
If you want you can enable the option that says dgvoodo watermark in GENERAL to see if the game detects the "fix"
Play a bit and see if the buffer shadows work then disable the dgvoodo watermark

Hope this helps.

I used this but i don't think the shadows are working right, saw some images online of the game using the proper shadows and they don't look like what i see, i'm playing on an AMD R9 270X.

Change the card in dvoodoo2, to the Geforce model.

I made a mistake in the above post, only the geforce model makes the shadows work.

The game does stutter a bit when you first start a level and first use thermal. It's perfectly playable, just noticeable and it seems to be a regular issue due to the way the wrapper works.

On the good end, the cutscenes are also in 1920x1080 resolution now.
does anyone else get really bad screen tearing while using this?

Might need to enable vsync in the wrapper options.
