JoyToKey works great for me, but I had to start it as an administrator for Spelunky to 'see' it.

It's a great little piece of freeware, I've used it for years.

Damn if I had known I wouldn't have bought the game.

uxtull: You need to download JoyToKey, the program automatically recognizes your controller and highlights every button you press, all you have to do is to assign each one to a corresponding key on the keyboard which does something in the game. You don't link JoyToKey with any files in the game you want to use it with, it just has to run in the background while you play.
Is there something like this but free?

I believe that you can simply use the free version of Joy2Key. I'm not sure what registering actually gets you; when I used Joy2Key for a different game I just used the free version.

If you want something that's officially and completely freeware, you can look for version 5.3 or older of Xpadder, which does a similar thing.

Thanks a lot!
Thank you guys, JoyToKey works as a charm with my plug & play controllers.
Another option, if you have a Logitech Gamepad such as the F310, then you can download and install "Logitech Gaming Software". You can then then assign each button, joystick axis/directional pad\POV, with the default keyboard control layout for the game; it's a very handy program to have.

If you do install it, make sure you run it as administrator, or you'll have problems running the game with the new controls and you won't be able to launch the game within the LGS program or taskbar menu.

You can even print out the profile you created for whatever game, for quick reference.
