Stating that you find the OP annoying really doesn't contribute to the discussion, it only moves us in the direction of flamewar. Noone is compelling you to read this or agree with him and counter-arguments are more than welcome.

To my knowledge this is the first case of GOG offering an expansion (stand-alone or not, still an expansion) seperately from the original game. Not only that, but both are offered at the maximum price. Questioning this is perfectly valid.

GOG and JoWood have to decide together what is acceptable. It seems like GOG made a compromise they haven't before, some of us would like to hear the reasoning behind this.

I assume that reasoning is somewhat like this:
"Either you put this for 9,99 here on GOG or you won't have exp pack at all"

At least I hope so. Because in Poland CDPROJEKT sold the expansion for lower price than vanilla game I assume that this time it wasn't possible.

But maybe I'm wrong. But don't expect GOG will tell you "yeah, we are greedy bastards" :P

They probably don't even notice it. Spellforce 2 has only been on GOG for about a month now and since it has only been here that short amount of time, it should be their worst selling game to date (the rest of the JoWood titles have had a lot more time to sell a lot more copies). JoWood and GOG have absolutely no reason to lower the price here as long as the game and the expansion are selling for the same exact price on every other digital distributor out there, only those other distributors don't include the GOG extras, remove DRM or sell Dragon Storm as a standalone game. The GOG package is really the best regular price deal in digital distribution for this game.

It is a running counter, it's an "all time" best sellers list.

Does no one notice that Spellforce 2 Gold is 20$ on steam? Which is essentially a repack including both games? The price is basically the same, I don't see why people don't notice this...
Personally I'd much rather the gog version so I don't have to rely on steam to run the game and I prefer to support a company that works hard to make older games playable again.
Edit: not including Namur in this, since he gets it already.

Not just Steam or the Gold pack. Gamersgate, Impulse, Direct2Drive... all the digital distribution services are either selling the Gold pack for $20 or Shadow Wars and Dragon Storm separately for $10 each and none of them have Dragon Storm as a standalone game. Sure, people can probably find physical copies of the games online and in stores for less, but frankly, you could say that about pretty much every game GOG sells, why is that suddenly such a bad thing with this game?

Jowood is bankrupt, the company filed bankruptcy a few months ago. They have nothing to gift they need every cent they can get out of their old products...

I think about dungeon keeper, there is no expansion there either, so is there a change in gog policy will there be other add on products ? Thats my two cents

I don' have a problem with the price. As mentioned, its DRM free and its new. I do think it would be reasonable for the expansion to be $6, but hey, this isn't a bargain site (although they do sell good games for cheap).

Go out to eat at a cheep restaurant, (even most fast food joints) and you've dropped 10 bucks for what, 'maybe' 1 hour of enjoying a meal?
And that's it, it's gone, you'll never be able to eat that food again.

Spend 10 bucks on a game, spend an hour or two having fun learning and playing it before the enjoyment of the novelty wares off.
After that point, if it's a decent game you'll be spending hours more, not to mention you STILL HAVE IT and can come back and spend hours playing it again later.

IMHO, that's pretty good bang for the buck....

A lot of people use food and drink analogies (specifically eating out) when justifying prices on games that other people find expensive but it's not helpful in my view. People have different budgets for food and entertainment and probably even have subcategories within those 2 with their own budgets, and we don't all eat out anyway. I never do.
