Tried to play the Spellforce game after a few monthes hiatus and it's asking for a serial number. What happened to NO DRM required?

It not always possible.
Game do not check actually cdkey and get any you input (well, for singleplayer). There is no actual DRM there.
Go to your account (on website) to get cdkey.
