I had this problem after i had downloaded and installed the game. I tried launching the game and it wouldnt start with a message appearing "Runtime error". I found the SOLUTION ONLINE.

I have Win7 64 bit .
1) I deleted the Spellforce 2 folder in My Documents
2)Then i launched the games as normal ... AND NOW IT WORKS !!

Had the same problem on Windows Vista and deleting the file worked as well.

In my own situation the file was also very old from a previous install and on a different video card - I suspect there is a config file in the My Documents folder that was confusing the game (trying to access a card/settings that were no longer possible).
