I just found out about this new entry to the series...

TURN BASED ?! What are they doing ?!

Looking at the images seemed to me like a "Heroes of Might and Magic" remake...

What do you know and what do you think about this new game ?

I was always hoping for a return to the past gameplay, and they are going far far away from it...
Then it's nothing for me, I don't do turn-based games. Period.

I have spent countless hours in SpellForce 1, with the rune hero system that was for some reason intriguing to me, and unique from my limited RPG experience. I loved it so much, I own 7 copies of it, including the original, individual physical releases, SpellForce Platinum and SpellForce Universe, plus the digital equivalents.

I played SP2 - probably just the main game, the "DLC" layout was just a mess to me - which was a bug-riddled console port that never should have seen the light of day as far as I'm concerned. Everything I loved about SP1 in terms of gameplay was either reworked or removed completely.

I do own SP3 "Reforced" - again, a mess of DLCs and a mix of apparently non-connected parts of games - but I am reminded of the SP2 fiasco every time I consider trying SP3, and have so far been put off it.

When / if they release the SP1 1.61 patch here on GoG, I will likely put every SP-related content released after that in the memory bin and do a purge, and just stick with the SP1 trilogy.

What's next? SpellForce the card game? SpellForce Battle Royale?

For all I care, they had a key to success with the first trilogy. And I am very picky about the games I play, so to make something that I enjoyed as greatly as SP1 is quite the feat.

I completely get your point, but you have to see that SpellForce is a Lore Universe and Francise IP. Its more then just one single gameplay formular. The mainline will always be RPG-RTS mix games, but all around SpelLForce can cover different gameplay styles too.

For example this is not the 1st turn based version of the Games. In the community a cardgame was even that much beloved that the community developed the analog game into a digital one:

So yeah, this is just the 1st one of many possible games to come. Who knows, maybe in the future we even get a full SpellForce RPG in the formular of Gothic or the Witcher.

Absolutely, it's not for me to tell or otherwise attempt to force what a developer does with its IP. I can only voice my own opinions and personal taste in what games I would want to play. And vote with my wallet after that (and having bought 7 copies of the first trilogy should count for something).

Just curious, are you a part of the SpellForce developers?
In the thread about the SP1 1.61 patch, you have replied as "we" and not "they".
https://www.gog.com/forum/spellforce_series/spellforce_platinum_edition_patch_161_also_coming_to_gog/post2

And since you quoted my whole post and not just the first part (could have left only the first and last paragraph) without addressing all the content in the quote, are there really issues with accessing all the additional content / DLCs from the SP3 main game and / or Reforced version?

I keep reading posts about limited access to the available races, something about how I must apparently either choose away one (trolls OR night elves, if I remember correctly).

I mention this, because this is the sort of issue that makes me NOT want to play a game. DLCs are fine as such (though I prefer complete expansions - again, like the SP1 trilogy did), but I do not want to have to choose between additional content made for a game.

All good, just wanting to explain the situation, since many people think this may now be the new „standard“ gameplay formular.

I am part of thr THQN community team. Contact to some of the developer studios and management comes with it. „We“ do work and communicate as a team, but i have to admit that writing replys with „we“ is more force of habit then most of the time intended ^^.

Sadly this is an issue the GoG version does have right now, because of a design mistake when this feature was planned. The idea was simple, depending on the games you own in your libery, content and features unlock. This was designed based on the Steam logic. It was expected that GoG does offer a similar database function where this could be copied over, but sadly this was not the case and an „emergency“ flag system did not perform as intended and is causing the issue right now.

„We“ are working on it right now (WE = THQN + devs) and should have a proper solution very shortly.

Thank you for the clarification and detailed response. Much appreciated. :)

As for SP3, it sounds like I will have another game to look forward to sometime Soon™ then.
I always go "cold" into a new game, with zero bias (unless I hear about multiple issues through the grapevine), and I have been looking forward to trying it. When it is...complete, that is. ;)

PaladinNO: I keep reading posts about limited access to the available races, something about how I must apparently either choose away one (trolls OR night elves, if I remember correctly).
The issue is only for skirmishes or multiplayer games and the absence of a single launcher for all the three games.
The single player campaigns have no issues.

There is an unofficial way to solve these issues, look in this forum at the thread called:
"SOLVED: Starting expansion campaigns from the base game"

We just got a patch that finally solved everything :-)

Now THAT is what I call expedited shipping! Thank you very much!

As I haven't been played SP3 at all yet, what am I missing for the complete content package?
I currently own these 2 items:
https://www.gog.com/game/spellforce_3_reforced
https://www.gog.com/game/spellforce_3_soul_harvest

Am I missing anything other than this?
https://www.gog.com/en/game/spellforce_3_fallen_god

Btw. what is the max supported resolution in SP3?
According to the Steam forums, 21:9 is natively supported, but I play at 48:9 / 7680x1440 if my mood takes me (3x 2560x1440 in Nvidia Surround).

What would be the result at that resolution? Would it work as it expected, or will I get black sidebars, stretched edges or a camera zoom way too far away?

Yeah fallen god is another content pack with trolls faction and campaign.

If you want more maps for skirmish or Journey mode, we did something on the community side:

Cool !
As a side note, I only now found out that there is a separate forum for this game... so seems really managed like it's not a part of the Spellforce main serie
