I'm trouble with my game. Any time I try to save, even if I run as admin, the game locks up and I get a window message about some program or function not being there. Obviously the game doesn't save after that and i have to press ignore or the game will lock up.
If I try to run the game again after the error happens, the game locks up at the first loading screen after making the main character.
I then have to reinstall for the game to work at all.
Any advice? I would like to play Spellforce. It seems pretty cool.

If your using win7 or vista try to install the program to a destination other then program files so something like C:\games\. Also if you could note down exactly what the error says and post on here that would be a big help.
Next time I reinstall I'll write down exactly what the error says. I'll try a different directory, too.
Okay. I reinstalled into /users/public/, ran as admin under vista 32, and still got the same error. Here is what it says:
G:/Spellforce/release/candidate/code/App/AppSession.cpp(888) : error:
Assertment failed!
Message: CAppSession::CreateSaveGame - File does not exist
And that's about it!
I hope this can be fixed.

I found this thread where the guy seems to have solved the same error:
http://spellforce.jowood.de/forum/showthread.php?t=31006
Seems he had to restore his my documents to his local path, I don't full understand what hes talking about myself though.
The game can't handle mapped net drives/directories, so if you have your "My Documents" folder in some place other than the PC where you have the game installed, look into that.

yes that might sound correct.
When you first install spellforce they propose you a standaard installpath. Just accept that one and the install will autocreate a save folder aswell under documents , my games.
That's where the savegames will be stored. If you change these around spellforce won't find them resulting in strange errors.
Try doing a complete standard install. If it works then push F7 (quicksave) F9 (quickload) and do a manual save from your menu.
If this all works your good to go.
do a hard save before starting and before leaving every map.
Do a quicksave after finishing difficult opponents. This will save you lots of headaches ;)

I hope this is the problem, but I don't have a networked drive and the folder in the error message doesn't even exist!
Also, the G drive the message refers to is my restore partition. I don't know why it would look there as I've never installed anything to it.
strange indeed , Did you partition a drive recently or something?
Keep us posted so we can help you further if needed.

Where do you have the "My Documents" folder ? Did you changed the folder default location to an external HD or something like that ?
Also, were you able to save at any point and then started having problems, or were you never able to save at all ?
I was never able to save and the My Documents folder is in the standard spot. :/
I'm grabbing a new netbook in a few weeks so I'm just going to try and install it on that. Thanks for the help, everyone.
really strange m8
My documents folder isn't protected or something?

If you never managed to save at all i guess the problem isn't with the temp files inside the save/temp/ folder. Those can at times mess up the saving.
You can always contact support if you haven't done so already.

Just look at the spellforce website and c if there r any patches these fix problems so try that as well!
I had the same issue when trying to run Spellforce via Parallels Desktop on a Mac. Thank you for the helpful info, turns out it was because the Documents folder by default is shared between Windows and Mac, so, for Windows it basically a folder on a network drive. I had to reinstall the virtual machine and turn off the sharing feature, so that Documents become a normal folder within the virtual machine. I also installed Steam into C:\Steam (not the C:\Program Files\Steam) just in case. Not I can save the game properly. Thank you!
