Recently Vladimir posted there much of the history oh SpaceEngine as blog posts, recovered by several places scattered through the net, I'm not sure if it's everything there but it should cover pretty much all.

The engine is still made by Vladimir, he is SpaceEngine and always will be the main programmer, but the SE team of collaborators has grown internationally.

That post according your own translation contains per se an explanation, it mentions the LLC and it clearly says that "making payments [in Russia] from the US is difficult", which is common knowledge in this particular moment. You don't really expect people thoroughly specify financial reasons possibly going to be interpreted as of political nature on those posts, do you? That job has been taken by a EU-based programmer after few months, by the way.

My impression is that the goal of this entire thread is still to leverage current international issues to seemingly justify repercussions on common individuals trying to live by their work, and it's ugly as it can be. It won't go anywhere.

Other than that, you can refer to blog posts on the website, where the team (which is there only because of Vladimir) answered to those questions, as it does when it feels appropriate.
