I picked it up, and I am enjoying it very much.

Simple to learn(only 3 units + planetary installations) difficult to master.

I got it after watching some reviews and played one multiplayer (that I lost horribly).

I am sure that I will play this again :) It is simple, but interesting.
I picked it up on sale and it was worth that price (50% off). Multiplayer seems to be non-existent being such a niche game, so you're left doing missions and skirmishes against the AI. That is good, except for the fact the game features a ranking system for progression, and you can only progress against human players in multiplayer. You can't make a two-player multiplayer match with just yourself and the AI either, so if there's no-one else in multiplayer, and if you don't have friends to play this with, the game ultimately ends up feeling quite limited.

The graphics are minimal but nice, and add to the ambience provided by the atmospheric music. It has a nice parallax effect, scanlines going across the screen and flashes of text in the background, making the whole game play like you're actually at a command screen directing portions of an army.

As mentioned, the music is very atmospheric. It's space ambience, and some of the tracks are decent, but some tracks are apparent in their oddity. There was one particular track with what was meant to have a space opera singing in portions, but it was so gravelly in deep sections and so scratchy in high sections that it made me want to mute it, to be honest. The rest of the tracks are passable.

Gameplay mechanics are simple to grasp and the game very much plays like a real-time version of Chess. You have Battle fleets which are for space battles, Siege fleets which are for bombarding systems, and Invasion fleets to invade and capture systems. The latter two ships aren't too good at space combat, so it comes down to you to work out a strategy to balance your army out, as your fleet size is limited to the amount of systems you control. Balance is key, else you'll find yourself struggling for a little before either coming back to a level playing field against the AI, or losing gradually enough to not realise until its too late.

AI in the game is alright. I highly recommend learning the game using the Easy difficulty, as Trivial AI are almost completely stationary the entire match except for sending out Invasion fleets in a vane attempt to grab any sort of resource to build from.

Considering this is an indie game, for what it is the price is still a bit too high. A max of $10 with a decent community behind it would make this a lot more appealing to a wider audience, but as it stands is a niche game that will remain in its niche, alone, with no community to populate the core drive of the game; multiplayer.

7/10
I picked up SpaceCom during the Insomnia sale. Despite its glaring faults, I love the underlying game; it uses simple mechanics to create a nice level of depth to the gameplay. I mostly agree with Varell's assessment, but I have to disagree on the AI. I frankly found it to be a pathetic non-challenge on most maps. Multiplayer is a ghost town, and the campaign just isn't long enough to carry the game.

I'd love to recommend a game like this, but in its current state I really can't.
I just picked it up myself and i love it. Someone up for multiplayer?

I made a topic here in the Spacecom community wanting to get people together for multi-player. I'd be up to try it out with you if you were interested, post in the topic letting me know.

That goes for anyone else here too!

Not right 'now' as its near midnight, but in general, yeah. PM me with when you want to have a match and your time-zone, let's see if we can't get something going.

I'd be down to play some multiplayer. I'm Pacific time (GMT-8), and if you give me sufficient forewarning I can play any time between 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM on weekends.

Have sent a Steam invite.
Haven't played it myself yet, but I gifted a copy to one of our regular forum members and got feedback afterwards:
"Interesting game, I like the simplicity, but would have benefited from more missions (only 13 - 4 are tutorial) and better AI. Here's hoping for a mission expansion update..."

Myself and some members are getting online for a multi-player match this weekend. You're GMT+1 in Germany, correct? Current plan is 9am Sunday for you if your friend/regular forum member is interested but the time may vary given we're currently split between Australia, Germany and Canada time zones.
