Hey guys,

Just bought the game and I'm reading through the manual, and it seems like it doesn't support any resolutions higher than 1024x768. I've got a 1920x1080 monitor, so it would be nice if there were a way to up the resolution. I don't see the game listed at the Widescreen Gaming Wiki, so do any of you know if it's possible? If not, it's OK because I can letterbox the sides, but full widescreen would be preferable.

EDIT: I've tried the game now and it doesn't seem like there's any way to get a higher resolution. But the game letterboxes fine if I set my graphics card scaling options to "preserve aspect ratio", so the image is not stretched horizontally on a widescreen monitor. Just in case anyone else is wondering.

I tried to use the prog at the link but it tells me I have an unsupported version. What did you do to get it to work with the gog version?

I just put all the files in the space rangers 2 foulder...Oh i have the reboot addon aswell mate maybe thats it sorry i forgot to mention that before.I think the problem is that the version of SR2 that they have on gog is an old version there is a updated version 1.30 but i cant find a patch,ive emailed GOG and asked them for the patch but no reply yet.

Quick question, I applied the widescreen patch to Gog's version of Reboot (released today). When I launch the patched .exe file, it says the application has stopped working and closes to desktop. Has anyone encountered this before, and is there a solution to the problem? Thanks.

Would like to up the resolution too, I downloaded a res updater tool but its not compatible with the gog version it seems. :(

To be honest: I'm c0mp13tE1y c0Nfu53d by Space Rangers. There's talk about "Dominators", "Reloaded" and "Reboot" and I hear about version 1.0.0.6 and 1.3 and... what the heck?

Fullscreen doesn't start - I hear the intro for half a sec, then just a CTD. So I'm playing in windowed mode, but that's so damn small that I just can't read the aweful and way too small font they used in this game. Any way to either change the font, or scale the whole window up? I don't care if it's scaled up by 50% or if the resolution gets higher, as long as it gets bigger...

But for starters: could someone help with all the versions mentioned?

install.txt actually states version 2.0 ... so 1.0.0.6 seems to be an GOG internal release version number? At least it so far looks as if our version is too new (patcher for 1.3).

Vertex, originally I had Dominators. Today, GOG upgraded Dominators to Reboot for free (for those who purchased Dominators). According to MADPADDY, we should be able to use the widescreen patch as long as we have Reboot. Well, it didn't work for me. The patched Reboot .exe crashes upon launch.

To recap, I went to the widescreen patch website, and downloaded and extracted the files to the Reboot folder. Then I installed the patch, which created a new Reboot .exe. However, that application crashes when I run it. This makes me think GOG's version of Reboot is different from the version available on Amazon and other game websites. I think MADPADDY bought Dominators from GOG, but bought Reboot from somewhere else (this was before GOG released Reboot).

If anyone has a solution, please let us know...

System specs:

Alienware laptop
Windows 7, 64-bit (clean install - I just reformatted my system last week)
ATI Radeon card
DirectX, graphics card driver, Service Packs current (no problems running other old games except Commandos)

Honestly, it isn't GoG's responsibility. This is an unsupported 3rd party patch/"hack". Best bet is to go to the forums of the people who make the patch and ask them.

Dosbox is different. For all intents and purposes, it is to GoG what directx is to pretty much any developer. It is what they use to bring the game to us. That's why they (for the most part) make sure that whatever game they bundle with dosbox works with the version they bundle it with (which isn't even the newest one, if memory serves).

The widescreen patch/hack/crack is a supplementary item used by people who don't want black bars. Wanting GoG to go out of their way to support it would be like expecting them to go out of their way to support Tutu or any of the unofficial patches for the Infinity ENgine games.

The people who need to "fix" this are the people who made the hack. If they aren't around, then hopefully it was open source and someone will take the time to fix it.

Ah, GOG doesn't include 3rd party patches - alright, I get it. That must be the reason they didn't add some unofficial 3rd party / community patch to the Tomb Raider series.

No.. wait a minute.

Now I'm even more confused. But how about this: just let GOG decide what GOG will or won't do - agreed? ;-)


And btw: this patch is no "widescreen fix" - it's just something that enables you to run the game at higher resolutions with upscaled textures.

Sort of like any video card capable of using modern drivers?

And yes, there are some exceptions, but those are, just that, the exceptions. I am not saying GoG shouldn't (well, actually I am, because it sets a bad precedent). What I am saying is that getting a third party hack to work with their release is not their responsibility. It is the responsibility of the people who made said hack.

I get the sense that GOG will include 3rd party fixes only when they address a fundamental issue with the game running "as intended". For example, a fan fix was included with Outcast so that it would not run into bugs due to super-fast modern CPUs, and would instead run as it was originally supposed to run. Also the Thief games include a fan-made fix that lets them run without crashes on modern video cards. Although I'm not familiar with the Tomb Raider fix so I don't know if that is the same idea.

But when people are looking to add widescreen resolutions or improve graphics over that of the original game, GOG will not include 3rd party fixes for those. So there are still 3rd party mods that people are applying themselves, so they can run in widescreen and with better textures or whatever else.
