So can someone tell me what would be some good starting tips for someone completely new to the franchise of Space Rangers?

Because I just bought SR Reboot on a whim since it was so cheap and I was wondering what I can do to make the rider easier my first time through.
You can find a wealth of tips right here: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/space_rangers_series/a_masochists_perspective_or_help_required
Thanks beer! Also gog screwed up the formatting again.
Flying through the sun will recharge your Fuel cells (and usually damage you a little), but can be really useful if you're in a rush, or ended up in an enemy controlled system with not enough fuel to jump to a safe one.

Use the Information Center "Search" religiously. It's a great place to look for well priced goods near you, or a certain ship part you're looking for and it lets you filter by weight and damage etc. Use it a lot :)

Dude I didn't know that.

The search is a must, and oh so much sexier in Reboot than the original version.

Go for courier missions a lot first, and also some trade. Invest early in a high-jump engine and then a fuel tank with at least as many points as the engine has jump capacity. After you get the hang of the controls, invest in a higher-capacity hull for more trading and faster profits.

Keep at least 30,000 available at any one time, dipping into this only to fill up the hull with pricier loads for a big fat profit run to another system.
Hyperspace(black hole arcade battles) is a good place to find artifacts quickly, but you do still a few good weapons to fend of any pirates. Running away does seem to work to a point.

You can buy research probes at a science station and then put them on a planet to search it for free stuff. They are reasonably affordable and will often find you a couple of artifacts and micro modules early on. Every now and then they may even find a stash of goods worth selling, and its all free. The only down side of probes is they get harder and harder to keep up with as the game progresses and far less worth the trouble, but early on they are great.

In the beginning don't buy better equipment, buy lighter equipment. There are always light versions of something you want.

Med stations can give you drugs "stimulators" to spike your stats. Once you level up its less useful, but early on it can do quite a lot for your stats.

Only science stations and Pirate bases can repair artifacts.

Military bases can repair your ship cheaper than other places. So when you start fighting and its starts hurting to pay for repair costs, its worth looking for one.

Someone asked about this in another recent thread and I wasn't quite sure of the exact answer, but....

...do pirate bases also give you the great repair prices if you get a good pirate rating? I've not yet tried the life of a pirate so I don't know.

I suspect so. I heard its cheaper, but when I tried repairing my ship they mentioned my pirate rating of 1 and it was essentially the same price it would be anywhere else. I did get the impression that if my rating were higher I would have gotten a better rate. I can not verify this, but further evidence is that my military status is quite high and it took a 50,000cr repair bill down to like 12,500cr. I don't think I was getting that same ratio earlier, but I could be wrong.

So I guess the honest answer is I don't know, about pirates, but I would be surprised at this point if you couldn't get a better repair rate with the corresponding pirate rating.
The first thing you should do is head for the planet where the bonus equipment you chose at character creation is stored. Get it, then look for equipment better then your starting equipment. As long as you start with at least a little money, you should be able to make some upgrades. As was said, look to swap out equipment for smaller equipment. You should be able to get some better stuff for very little.
My starting is pretty similar to all this, with a few changes. On high difficulty, make sure you get involved in defending systems, both for rank, loot, and keeping the systems. Higher difficulty it can be hard to get missions, but they'll all be within reach which is good. Don't underrate missiles if you're playing a non-pirate (I say non-pirate because they're good for killing, but can lead to kills after surrenders), especially if you find an enhancer early. Get light gear, and use research centers once you can afford to. Start with lower-cost research enhancement for your gear, but gradually move up to the mid-level and even high-level as either your gear level goes up, or as your capacity to afford it goes up (these can differ depending on luck and other things).
In general, avoid minor upgrades unless you've got money accumulating with nothing to do.
Once the frontier seems to have stabilised, invest in bank deposits, especially if there are two banks in existence.
Couple of other things>Fun thing to do is to hang around by a ship under attack by pirates, then when they jettison stuff grab it before the pirates >:)
Also, scanners can help you predict exactly when a ship is going to explode, so get close to them (no blast damage as far as I can tell) to make sure you get first dibs
