Granted I have only played the first RTS mission you can do, but I was impressed. It's obviously nothing amazing compared to a real RTS, but considering it's just a mini game I'd say it's pretty awesome. I mean there's a fully movable camera and pretty decent 3d graphics! Plus cool weapon effects. And you can manually control a robot FPS style!! I also like how you can customize the robots, and how you can turn their AI on so they do their own fighting.
I like the RTS minigame but I suck at it. I tried doing it all on my own (without extra support) and it's incredibly difficult for me. I have yet to try it with extra reinforcements or with the improved armour.

If anyone has any pointers, I'd appreciate them.

TreeHugger, May I make a suggestion. I always at the start of matches have enough healing robots with 4 arms, extended range and fast booster legs so as to keep myself fully healed. That way they can keep each other alive and keep you up at the same time. about 4 usually works, depending on the situation.

For attacking I suggest 4 missile launchers, same legs, grenade launcher on the shoulders and increased firepower for the head so you can shoot a little more often. Make as many of these as you can. Then just send in ones you want to take over things, and whichever way the enemy comes, take over the one nearest to them and decimate all . If you take too much damage, retreat to the healers and repeat.

Hope this helps.
also something more to add, I dont have any reinforcements or bonuses of any kind, as that makes your reward for completing the mission all more miniscule. If you do it without you get a lot of money.

I found it's best to create only one kind of robot -- an attack robot with one arm a healing ray. I like to use the chest with 4 arms, the fastest feet, the shoulder mortar, the head that increases range by 20%, 2 arms with the highest damage weapon (plasma gun?), 1 arm with the stun gun, and 1 arm with the repair gun.

This robot is very expensive, however. An alternative is to use 3 rocket launchers and 1 repair gun as the weapons -- also you can substitute the head that blocks stun rays.

To attack you just select all the robots and move them around the thing you want them to kill. They will repair whatever needs to be repaired whenever they are not attacking. This is much easier then trying to manage a separate repair robot.

Give this a try and see if those RTS missions don't suddenly become much easier.
@Denezan and Goletz:
Thank you very much for your suggestions. I design my robots like Denezan suggested but the robots seem to have trouble moving around efficiently. You know, they turn a lot and seem a bit slow.

I will try your expensive design, Goletz, as it sounds very interesting.

I have recently improved my RTS game a lot just by taking direct control of a robot!

My favourite design to control:
– Dynamo head (faster shooting and movement)
– 4x launchers or plasma guns
– Antigrav boosters (fastest movement overall)

It's amazing how much better a human can command the robot. I start shooting from farther away than a robot will, I'm better at staying out of range and am less likely to be destroyed.

Towards the end of each match, when it's just down to the last opponent and myself, I will start building this type of robot with the bomb included. If things are still close, I will control the robot and detonate it myself, otherwise I can just send it in to blow the hell out of what's left of the other guy.

Really love the RTS minigame too but the new levels which the patch 1.81 includes are too hard for me to actually win. @_@

I have also found a guy with 4 lasers to be really good standing up front. When all 4 lasers are pointed at one guy he dies really quickly. Unfortunately they also quickly overheat and renders the robot useless.

I build 1-2 manual command bots (4 missile, grav feet, mortar, rate-of-fire head) and then build the rest with 2 missile, 2 repair (same on the rest unless I need to skimp a bit on resources).

I manually control one of my command bots and single-handedly capture bases / repel most attacks as it can outrange (and 2 shot) anything the AI uses. It also outranges base turrets (even missile) so the only damage I take is if I am being careless.

Once a base is captured I build missile launcher turrets and post 2-4 of my AI controlled 2 ML, 2 repair guys behind the turrets for support/repair (pairs of 2 ensures they can repair each other too).

Another strategy I use is if there is more than 1 type of dominators on the map I always harass the strongest and I never elminiated colors if I can help it. I go around and capture their outposts but not their last bases and I try to choose outposts I cap in such a way that I can take over most of the map yet still allow their armies to attack each other. That way they spend their resources fighting each other while I take over 90% of the map. Once that is done I go in for the kill. Lots of times they are so starved of resources by then they are easy to take over just by sending my swarms of repair/missile drones at their bases.

Using these tactics I've never had to call in extra support so max reward each time.
