Bladeregret: I start the game and there is only sound but no picture untill the first movie, then the movie plays fine but then it goes to what I think is the main menu but its just a black screen but I can see my curser and can hear the sound like I am moving over tabs. I tried running in as administrator and in windows xp compatibility mode but it still does the same thing. Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this.

I did some googling and found the following advice, which appears to be about running the game through Wine:


"When starting Space Rangers 2 (and the original Space Ranger), I'm greeted with a black screen. The sound plays in the background, and it is even possible to click on menu items, thought nothing is visible.

To resolve this problem, edit/add the following key in the registry for the bottle:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D\
DirectDrawRenderer = opengl

Works perfectly for me after this change."



Something like this could help, but you probably don't need the registry to do it... is there an .ini file somewhere in the game install directory? Open it and see if there's an option for OpenGL somewhere. You could also try different screen resolutions to see if that helps.

gooberking: from that post it looks like it is system registry adjustment not an ini or other config file adjustment. Its generally a bad idea to poke around in there if you don't know what you are doing though. Basic rule of thumb is to back up the registry before making changes, but I would also recommend reading up on the habit first.
