Waltorious: Perhaps this post from Rock, Paper, Shotgun will clarify a little?

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/11/30/before-kings-bounty-there-was/

This seems to suggest that Space Rangers 2: Reboot was actually an updated and improved version of the Space Rangers we see here on GOG. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Anyway, the review I posted earlier has the same screenshots as this GOG release so one can probably take that as a good indication of what the game is like. I'll probably be picking this one up soon.
No, no no. There are two games, Space Rangers 1 and 2. While the 2 may have been left out in earlier releases, this is indeed the original game. SR 2 is a full sequel, with all new graphics and a new storyline as well as some new features, although it follows the gameplay very, very closely in a lot of ways.

It's too bad that fan expansion isn't available in English. Maybe someone will translate it eventually.

EDIT: That review is mixing the two games up. The Dominators only appear in game 2, but the screenshots are clearly from game 1. Wierd.

Petrell: Here is a copy of description (the person posting it used tranlation tool. Anyone know Russian and could provide better translation?) :
Not much better, but there:
"Revolution" adds:
• unique scripted situations [maybe word "encounter" would be better here, I dunno], which make game more interesting and deep (read below).
• additional equipment with unique characteristics.
• 42 new micromodules, some of which canonly be installed on dominators' equipment.
• text quests and planetary maps (43) and arcade fights (5).

Scripted situations:
• there will be a possibility of election. Very interesting situation, but it's better to see and participate once, than to read hundred enthusiastic responses.
• destroying of military base by pirates. Arrival of fleet of military fighters to protect MB is mandatory.
• player gets the opportunity to participate in experiments on science base "Annihilation".
• computer rangers generate artifact once in 1-3 years.
• destruction of the annoying creditor by the name of business center by the ranger-debtor with the quark bombs.
• talks of computer dealers about purchase of drugs, and, actually, purchase and sale of the dangerous goods.
• and another heap of cheerful and original jobs, adventures and innovations which impatiently wait you in addon.

The added scripts have made free world of SR2 even more independent, rangers began to be engaged more actively in their direct duties, and with that the competition has grown also, the real struggle for a post of the Messiah of space has begun. Fuss of casual pirates has grown into organized crime; space turned into the huge spontaneous market without rules except greed for profit and power. And it will be hard not to sink in wealth of choice and not to forget about a main goal of the ranger - to destroy waves of aggressors by any means.

Thanks :-) Shame we westerners have to do without it :-/
I'd be very careful because many just called Space Rangers 2 'Space Rangers' because Space rangers 1 came free with it.

I got Space Rangers 2 and tried to play Space Rangers 1 but couldn't get into it, as it seemed a beta SR2 with lots of friendly options missing. it also didn;t have the land battles.

I think a lot of quotes are from people that played and loved Space Rangers 2 and if this is Space Rangers 1 I would look elsewhere to get Space Rangers 2 that will give you a free SR1 anyway.
Actually, online distributions of SR2 often come without 1, such as the copy that I have.
By the way, this was confirmed in another thread to be SR1 only. In case anyone is still confused.

First of all, it might help if you posted in forum that actually belong to the game in question, instead of randomly shoving into a completely unrelated thread about a completely unrelated game. Folks posting here are interested in and know about Space Rangers, and not whatever you're talking about.

Secondly, posting in all caps is very, very rude and likely to get your pleas for help ignored, or else taken much less seriously.

Steam sells them separately, for instance.
Impulse in my case, but same basic idea.
