Any chance for a patch to run Soulbringer in Windows 8?
Running it as admin or in emulation mode makes it very very laggy.

I would like to second this. Would love to play this gam again.

I was able to get it to install on Win 8. However, the framerate is so low, it is impossible to play. FPS is ~ 1-2. I have a 670GTX video card. I've tried all the options in the Soulbringer launcher for DX6 and DX7. I've also tried to run the game using all the compatibility options from XP SP3 to Win 7. Everything comes up, but FPS is low.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get this working?
GOG Support have told me currently there are no plans for Windows 8 support, but hopefully they will resolve the issues and get working as it is a pain to keep swapping to Windows 7 just to play the game :(
I should have read this forum before purchasing, I think... Live and learn, I guess. I am disappointed.
Yeah... Should have read this forum too... Looks like GOG is no longer an option for buying and playing old games on newer systems. And we can't get a refund either.
It's not just Windows 8.
I have Vista 64 and it just won't run either.

I just keep forgetting "READ THE FORUM FIRST, THEN BUY"
I've just bought this game, running windows 8.1 64bit and don't seem to have had too many issues with it. The first time I loaded it I set the resolution to my monitor (1920x1080) running as an admin. The game loaded but as has been reported the frame rate was awful.

I went back into the graphics settings and lowered the resolution dramatically to 800x600 and changed the renderer to one of the direct x 7 ones. Booted up the game and the frame rate is now pretty smooth for the most part although I haven't played much so I have no idea how it will hold up as the game goes on.

The loss in fidelity really doesn't affect the game much. It was never a looker and to be honest I could see very little difference between the two with exception of a noticeably larger interface and cursor, strange as it may sound.

Don't know if this will be the same for everyone however.
I've seen this happen with other Windows 98 games before; they always run much slower on a modern system than they did on computers from the year 2000. I noticed that one core of the CPU goes to 100% utilization while the others remain idle. Of course, that's because these old games don't support multiple cores, but why 100% utilization? Even a single core of a quad-core processor is faster than a 2000-era Pentium.

i can attest that your fix does smooth the game out a fair bit but it is still choppy, although i am running windows 8 not 8.1 so i will edit after upgrading

bjr,
