Please Bump this thread as much as you like as I found a real fix for AMD/ATI users!

First off, ATI cards suck for older games after the 13.0 driver update, so you must download and drop an AMD Driver .dll specifically made for the 32 bit version of win 7 as the game will not work on some WIN 7 64 bit systems...I found an AMD 11.04 32 bit win 7 driver via this thread @Post 22, it was also stated in one of the threads here about the old AMD drivers but the official AMD site doesn't even have it for download (Fuckin' assholes....)

Use 7zip to find and extract the atiumdag.dll from the driver installer and place it in the Soulbringer dir, as an added bonus it also fixes the darkstone inverted normals glitch as well!

I did that, but now I get a DirectDraw error: Access to this surface is refused because an attempt was made to lock the primary surface without Display Control Interface (DCI) support. I can't find anything related to that. Anyone wanting to pitch in? ;p Also I can't seem to be able to choose what Dx to use when I put the *.dll file in the dir. I only get the option of software driver.

EDIT: I got it to run. I downloaded atiumdag.dll 7.14.10.911 AND EAX.dll from dll-files.com (just google 'em) and put them in the directory of the game. Then (with no compatibility settings) run Soulbringer.exe and configure the video settings to whatever you want (mine is at Dx7, 1920x1080), go to advanced settings and untick both options (not sure if it's necessary, but I have them unticked) go back to video settings and click test. Close the launcher and double-click SoulbringeVCnoeax.exe. It works. I don't know if it will work with the atiumdag.dll that the gentleman/woman at the steam forums supplied, but it did work with the one from dll-files.com. The "secret" seems to be the EAX.dll, because I couldn't configure anything in the video settings without it being in the directory. I hope the game was worth the hassle :p

Guys, I'm running Windows 10 x64, and the game runs fine here with no extra files at all, and runs great on my AMD HD 7850 2GB with the latest Windows 10 WDDM 2.0 drivers, the 15.200.1023.7 drivers. No problems.

I did have to set compatibility mode for the soulbringer.exe to Win95. (But nothing else in any further compatibility settings.)

Also, I found that it was necessary to select 16-bits (I'm running in 1280x1024x16) in the video settings, along with any of the available DX7 settings (Mine is set for DX73D T&L HAL.) Windows itself does not have to be in 16-bit mode--just the game itself.

I could not get the game to run in 32-bit mode, or in the DX6 mode, no matter what I did or what dll's I added and experimented with. I remember when this game was first released, I played it on a Voodoo 5 5500k...;) That's why I thought it might actually be a 16-bit game--they were common at the time...

Don't feel bad...I kept trying to make it run in 32-bit mode, too, but the combo of Win95 compat mode on soulbringer.exe (left off any compatibility settings on the rest of the game executables) & selecting for 16-bits plus a DX7 in-game video mode did the trick!

This got the game running perfectly for me (Windows 7 x64 with ATI graphics) after like two years of trying. Props to you bro, thanks a lot!

Do you not understand?...;) The game opens it's own internal setup before the game launches and you select 16-bits there. Windows doesn't have to be set to run in 16-bits, just the game itself.

I don't understand the fact that this works. ;) Since it doesn't on my system.

I'm setting the game to 16-bit color when it runs, making sure that it's in compatibility mode for 98/ME. I choose my preferred resolution x16. It looks like it's going to run (and creates a running process even) but never actually runs.

Win 7x64 (my network card freaks out on Win 10, or I'd be on that), Crimson 16.1.1, Radeon HD 7700.

Make sure you are running the latest version of DX9.0c for Win7x64 alongisde DX10--which would be the June 2010 release--last one Microsoft made, AFAIK. Other than that...

It seems like you are doing the right things...something I've noticed is that I had better backwards compatibility with Win8 & Win10 than I recall with Win7--although it's been years since I've used Win7x64...Win10 is actually better in that respect than Win8, imo. You can pick up a network controller card at BestBuy or online for ~$25 or less...and getting one with Win10x64-compatible drivers would allow you to install Win10x64--which, remember, is still free for you since you own Win7--you can even activate it with your Win7 prod key! You've got until July 29 2016 to upgrade for free (if Microsoft doesn't extend the offer), so I definitely think you should hop on it...;) You don't have to pay for it and it will be the last OS you'll ever need to buy for your PC...!

Ok, I recently bought the game and copied the settings exactly as you had them, but mine won't work. Any suggestions?

Edit: Ok, I downloaded atiumdag.dll and it allowed my game to boot up, but now after the main logo appears, my screen cuts to black, then comes back with the logo in the upper left-hand corner, then crashes with this error then appearing:

"DDrawScreen::SetPalette : Failed to Set Direct Draw palette entries with DirectX error code 80004005:
There is an undefined error condition."

I also get, less frequently, this:

In addition, when I have the atiumdag.dll file in my directory, it no longer gives me the option to choose anything for graphics under the video settings other than the Software settings, which is contrary to what other people have been getting.
