Since the maker of the game sometimes logs on here(He's posted once or twice), I decided to post these here, and be a bit more serious with it than with my other suggestions for games like Eador. In this case, I'll suggest some things I think would be easier to code, and see what others think of them.
Now, first three are alterations to the menu/cheat menu. The easiest is the first, and then I'll move on to more complex.
1) Move the Age Cheat to the main menu.
There's a blank space on the settings menu, and this one is mentioned in the manual for the game, so I say, put it where it's more easily found. Personally, while I do understand the desire to put a turn limit on games like this, I hate the practice, as it interrupts my fun, and makes me have to think about what I'm doing(Like hauling larger ships to port with reduced crew). I say this is important just because now you don't have to mention a cheat menu at all, and it'll keep that hidden for a while longer.
Now, what to replace it with...well, my next two suggestions.
2) Add a cheat for Double Dodge, and another for Double To Hit
Basically, replace that toggle with two others, one that doubles your dodge rating, making you even harder to hit, and one that doubles your to hit, allowing you to snipe in long range even with normal guns. Yes, I know, the low to hit and high dodge ratings in the game are basically how you make combat winnable in multi ship fleet battles, or just overall with the whole shield only regens a bit between fights. Still, this is a cheat, so it needs to be overpowered. Not like there isn't one just to blow the crud out o the other guy.
3) Add a cheat for instant travel.
Again, pretty basic. It's another toggle, and it reduces all travel time to zero, so you can instantly move anywhere. This will mean you can get involved in wars more easily, and take systems quickly, before the other side can move much. You would have to do fights or just go in and out of planets to move the clock forward. It would also remove the need for the age cheat, since now you'd basically have infinite or near infinite turns anyway.
Okay, my next one is a double thing. One's a mechanic suggestion, the others a cheat version of the same.
4) AP Saver
Whenever you have AP left over at the end of a round, it rolls over into the next round of combat, up to twice what you normally have. I'm stealing this from Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, but I think it would work here. It would add a new layer to combat strategy. Do you use all your AP now, or skip your turn, hoping you can survive the next onslaught, and then come back with two turns in a row worth of kick butt.
5) AP Collector
A Cheat version of the above. Again, a toggle cheat. In this case, you save AP same as above, but either with no upper limit, or more likely a limit of 255 AP collected at max. More, it's continuous, so you can engage, say, a fighter while you're in a cruiser, and then skip turns until you have that saved AP, then go and fight a Battleship, lowering its shields and just annihilating it before it can move.
That's all I've got for now, but I'll try to think up more later. Anyway, what do you guys think?
