I've been eagerly awaiting SKALDs release next week, but I've only just now realized that it's gonna be an Early Access release initially. So I was hoping we could maybe get some additional info on what to expect from this release on GOG:

- Will the game release on GOG as in-dev next week or will it be released here later on, once it's fully finished? Just asking because the GOG store does not have the game marked as "in-dev" yet.
- If the game is released here as an in-dev version, can we expect it to be updated alongside the Steam version or will this be one of these cases where the GOG version is updated less frequently, only with the "major milestones"?

Anyways, looking forward to the game!

Same questions here. I already saved my Paysafe card for this game, I really need a good RPG now. Normally I don`t buy in dev games at all, but after playing around a bit with the prologue I´m willing to make an exception!
I now read on the developers webpage, that it won`t be released today and that there is no date for the release now. Seems as if we have to wait a few more months longer. Dang, I definitely want this game!

Hey, thanks for the info! It's a bummer, of course, but if the dev feels the game needs more time, I won't argue. Good things are worth waiting for.

Since the post on the website also mentions the demo having been updated to version 3.0 on 21 Juli, I figured I'd just play that again to see what had changed since my last playthrough. Unfortunately, according to GOGDB, the demo on GOG is still 2.0...

Yep, the demo is still v 2.0. Hm, doesn`t look good to me. Seems as if the developer don`t really cares for the GOG version. That makes me cautious, in such cases it`s likely that the developer won`t release patches on GOG ever, so I`m thinking about waiting for the official release of the complete game.

Hi there and I'm so sorry for missing this post! I thought I had alerts turned on for GOG but seems not :-)

Yeah as you saw, I postponed launch till later this year. You can read more about in on the devlog but in short, it comes down to me having gotten quite a bit of polish and wanting to iterate on it a bit more to get the game polished before EA.

The plan is to support the game equally on Steam and GOG. A minor issue is that GOGs update system for new builds is a bit slower so it might lag a few days behind Steam BUT it should get all the same builds.

As for continued support of the game, feel free to join our excellent Discord:

and subscribe to the devlog at www.skaldRPG.com :-)

Hey man! See the answer above. I submit all my builds to GOG at the same time as Steam but the way it is set up now, builds are uploaded by the GOG staff and I'm sorry to say they are a bit slow for my liking.

I'm looking into fixing this and we'll see how it goes. The big issue isn't really for major updates but needless to say it becomes problematic for fire-patching where I might push several builds on the same day to plug holes.

Cheers,

AL

Thanks for the info. Well, I hope then, that GOG brings the patch finally. So far, I`m having fun with the demo (The Prologue). It`s quite easy to get into the game and combat is fun. The controls are easy to learn and quite intuitive. The graphics remind me of Ultima and the good old C 64, although the graphics when you talk to someone or when story bits are told are a bit too detailed. But that fits good into the game.
So I`ll keep looking forward for the patch and the release. :-)

Oh, and one question: Why didn`t you get yourself a developer account on GOG instead of a normal one?

Hmm dev account you say? TBH I didn't even know that was an option :-) I'll certainly look into it!

Thanks!

Yep, you should totally do this. The first post in this thread here:
https://www.gog.com/forum/legends_of_amberland_the_forgotten_crown/welcome

shows how a developer account looks like. :-)

I've never published a game on GOG myself, so I don't know the processes involved, but from what I've read, there should be two ways to push new builds on GOG: You either send your build to GOG directly (which takes longer, since it involves GOG staff checking and uploading your build) or you use the GOG Galaxy backend, which should allow you to push new builds instantly, without the need for GOG staff to get involved. I've read devs claim that the second option works pretty much as quickly and as smoothly as Steam.

Like I said, that's all hearsay, but maybe it's something worth looking into?

No this is 100% correct! The only reason I didn't nail this down before the demo is that it's a bit more complicated than Steam and I didn't feel confident that I could nail it before the demo launch. I'll need to look into this before EA so I can update at will once we go live :-)

Well, hover with the mouse over your name in the navigation bar (or how it is called), click on Orders & Settings, then on Account and Locale and there you can change your avatar. :-)

Shiny dev in thread! :D

Anyways, thanks for answering my question. And take as much time as you need with polishing the game - I'll be there day 1 to buy it!
The Prologue was now updated to 3.0.
