Mac Mini M2 OS Sonoma 14.5

On trying to run the game I just get a black screen, nothing, no picture, no sound.

Hope there will be a fix for this for people who buy in the future.

Same problem on an M1 MacBook with MacOS 14.5. Immediately after I installed the game it worked and I played for a few minutes, but now it doesn't.
I'll quote the developer from discord, if I may:

I just noticed that for me it seems to work if and only if I launch it from GOG Galaxy.
same here. m1 with ventura. log seems to say that the game cannot load a GalaxyCSharpGlue library, even though it exists in exactly the location that the log mentions. this being unity i've tried in on both a case-sensitive and case-insensitive filesystem, that doesn't make a difference.

Apparently the work-around is to run the app under Rosetta for now. I installed the game from the offline files listed as: v0.4.5 plus the Reinforcement Pack DLC, but when I run the game it shows Pre-Launch v1.0.3d Deluxe. Something is not matching up...

I would agree. Myself and OldFatGuy thought the same thing. To the best of my knowledge, the version we have is the correct one.

Firstly, from discord:

Secondly, also from discord. The developer has been at least on one occasion, paraphrasing, "correcting typos as fast as they are being delivered." With me being the delivery boy in this instance. I am like you on patch 1.0.3D, so it stands to reason that we are viewing the same script/code that the developer himself has been altering.

BRUEGAR mentioned the work around, but just making it explicit for anyone finding their way here:

Right click on the Skald app from the Finder, select "Get Info", and then check "Open using Rosetta".

It'll then work outside of using GOG Galaxy.
My game is also not working - when I try to launch it, the process just cancels itself. I'm on Windows 10 though.

Had the same issue with Northgard, if I remember correctly - never managed to find a solution or even anyone else with the same issue there as well.

The only advice I found recommended changing the Details settings of the SKALD application itself, but I can't seem to find any kind of executable in the installation folder either.
I'll refund the game for now, but if anyone has a hunch what might be going on, I'd appreciate advice.

Would like to play the game, but this sort of thing is infuriating to no end for my tech-illiterate self.

Hello, not being able to find the executable within the game folder itself is a bit of a tell. I'll assume that you didn't overlook it by mistake, because it certainly should be present. It's should be in the main directory, named "SKALD Against the Black Priory(.exe)." If it is indeed missing as you say, then something appears to have gone wrong during installation, so it may not be an error with the game itself.

Somebody reported a similar issue to you, but this was in 2021 on Steam when only the demo was available. This individual had the error persist: that the game was unable to launch, and that the executable was missing, even when uninstalling and redownloading the game. The solution to this was to perform a system restart between uninstalling and reinstalling. You could try this, whilst also removing the data at the directory listed below.

Second, at the that directory two text files named "Player" and "Player-prev" should hopefully have been created: C:\Users\[User]\AppData\LocalLow\High North Studios\SKALD_ Against the Black Priory.

If they exist, my only recommendation would be to contact the developer personally with these files on hand and a description of the error. Reason being that with a cursory search I couldn't find anyone else with an identical issue other than what I stated above. He has expressed consent to be contacted privately on discord regarding unsolved major technical matters. The server can be found here: https://discord.com/invite/6wrFFdW. Alternatively, it may be preferable for you to contact him directly on discord at skaldrpg (SkaldRPG#0395) or on Twitter @SkaldRpg.

It's kind of a relief to hear that at least at one point someone else had the same issue, this was driving me nuts.

It was no trouble at all. I'm slightly concerned that I'm giving you a little false hope, because I have no way of determining if my suggestions will actually be of any use. But best of luck, and do let us know if you find a solution, especially if it is one that won't require a patch from the developer.
Not working on my two Intel Macs, either.
Black screen and no sound on High Sierra, and black screen with sound on Monterey. :(
Rosetta 2 is not an option for me, because the thing only works on Macs with Apple silicon.
