It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

First, congratulations to Asharp and Kitfox for the release, and thanks to gog for a day one release!

I've decided to give it a try on Linux (here Fedora 30).

With Winecfg set to Windows 10, the game screen loads and the left column with "Clan", "Magic", "Map", "Relations", "War", "Wealth", "Lore", "Saga", "Controls", appears but then ZFGameBrower.exe crashes and I only can click on each option without effect.

Then I tried to play it natively (I downloaded both gog Windows and MacOS versions and the Unity Linux setup from Unity Archive).
With assets from MacOS (wich seem to be Linux compatible) in place of Windows ones, with the LinuxPlayer executable from Unity Archive, I obtain the same thing than previously - without the message concerning ZFGameBrowser obviously, and in the logs, the game fails to point StormAgePlugin and co, but then again it's obvious since it hasn't been compiled for Linux.

It seems that ZFGameBrower is a Chromium embedded browser, which has a Linux version but sadly unstable, so I understand.

I should investigate on why ZFGameBrowser.exe crashes on Wine. Apparently few other games use it (Shroud of the Avatar and Langrisser mobile).
Hey Huinehtar,

did you get any further in getting the game to work with wine?

Cheers!

Ilitharias:
Sorry for the very late answer !

I haven't sadly investigate further for a month, and I am confident that the status - if played natively as I have tried - would be the same today since it's independant from Asharp: if the linux version of ZFGamBrower is still unstable.

My tries were during "early days" after release, I do hope that with wine it could be better as further versions of Six Ages and Wine, well at least it couldn't be worse...

A pity since if playable on Linux, it would be a great hint for Windows 7 users who wouldn't want to use Windows 10.

I'll give a try this weekend.
I really hope devs will be able to release a Linux version eventually. Look forward to it!
So... It seems that now Six Ages with Wine has the same problem Windows 7 users have, even with Windows 10 set in Winecfg, because it needs an updated version of Windows 10...

This seems to have been introduced with version 1.0.10 - 2, the "old" 1.0.9 (39) sill loads to main menus.

Will wait for a year, maybe, time will tell.

Saddened by this whole situation.

Thank you for your trying!

Unfortunately, I have only Win 7 (and Linux, of course), so no Six Ages for me. Shame, no Six Ages for me. Really sad!

The message has been altered to better handle some edge cases in Windows, but it doesn’t actually work any differently. We explicitly check for failure to load the game plugin, rather than having it fail later. For a few users, the improved message helps, since it explains a way you can resolve the failure to load.

Wine will need to be, um, more like Windows 10, I guess. I am not sure exactly what functionality our libraries need. Our check for Windows 10 is only to give an explanation ahead of failing.

Thank you for the explanation.
I don't loose hope that someday, somehow, Six Ages (and hopefully further A# games!) will be playable on Linux.
I'm not a developer so my knowledge is very limited, but luckily someone will manage to make it work (maybe not Six Ages specifically, as Wine bugfixes may have repercussions on many other unsuspected games/applications/software).

After all these years of liking King of Dragon Pass, I won't suddenly stop being a fan because the new game doesn't work on a non-native OS. ;-)

As I mentioned in the Six Ages 2 release's topic, I tried a little bit testing once more Six Ages Ride Like the Wind on Wine, and it seems to be functional (with a few windows errors that can be passed)!

Testing further needs to be done, but the situation seems very promising at least.

Tried with Wine 8.13 (set Windows 10 on winecfg with a virtual desktop) on Fedora 38.

(Not seeing that topic, is it in a more general forum?)

This doesn’t directly help you but I have several reports of the game running on Steam Deck, which is Linux-based. So Wine muts have indeed matured.
