Am I the only one that liked the expansion much better than the original game?

Even though most of the bugs have been fixed in the original, in my opinion it still feels like a game that was rushed out the door. Level design is generic and lacking special touches and attention to detail. Enemies are mostly cookiecutter humans, and despite the entire premise of the game being the development of mutants, the few mutants that appear are not very interesting. The story is for the most part nonsensical and dumb, it feels like you are moving through a sequence of disconnected levels rather than following a plot. The gameplay is almost entirely standard shooter stuff, though not nearly as well done as in games like Serious Sam or Duke Nukem.

Wages of Sin is so much better IMO: it features a much broader set of enemies, including many unique and well-designed mutants. The level design is more polished and well thought out, and you visit cooler locations like casinos and ships. The storyline is much more interesting, you really feel compelled to play to find out what happens next, and the banter between JC and Blade is better as well. Gameplay is much more varied, you will find yourself trying to foil jewel heists or chase down a maintenance man based on his radio communications. Perhaps most telling are the boss fights: in the original they are boring and straightforward, while the last boss fight in Wages of Sin is absolutely magnificent.

Anyone feel the same?
I agree !

Anyone find any walkthrus for Wages ?
I've just finished the expansion and I also liked it more than the original. Maybe because it's the first time I've played Wages of SiN and I'd already played the original SiN campaign two times before.

I enjoyed a lot some of the items, like the thermal goggles, the plasma bow, dual magnums... the flashlight not so much. The great variety of mutants it's also good but I can't say that the boss fights were that good, they were ok, but I'm not the biggest fan for them nor in the expansion and nor in the original SiN.

And the banter between John and JC sometimes was hilarius!
Wages of SiN is different than the main in couple of ways. First of all, missins are self-contained and often linear (although open, with multiple paths to take they have always 1 true way to beating it). Other things is no secret levels, and new types of enemies appearing too early. Biggest problem isn't the final showdown but the super mutants that can survive couple of nukes and tons of rockets and plasma belts. Layout of levels is often confusing but ammo/health/armor ratio is better balanced than original game with new gadgets coming to play.

Original SiN is divided into chapters, each one putting more emphasis on story over gameplay so it shows on the scale of the levels and places with any new area having multiple routes to beat and even skip some levels entirely (of course not without consequences) These ones which are optional also changes course of gameplay and every chapter has good introduction of new enemy types and weapons. They are basically episodes but with very strong mission and story connections, every single thing have sense although sometimes whole game feels like triumph of form over content, while Wages of SiN lacks in authenticity and sense of completness often going into shortcuts and having plot tied into levels just to bring more action on screen and it shows.

BTW. Do you know where exactly is this area, because I played base game and expansion and never run into poster like that:

If you played through the other version, then the original si_eastman1 texture was actually not there: http://www.nextdimension.org/sinsteam/

I'm not completely sure, but I think that poster is in one of the secrets areas in the level where you are chasing the bad guys through the roofs in the original SiN (second or third level I think).

Grimlock is correct, its from the Construction Zone map. Start watching about 1:20 seconds in. After jumping across the building he blows open an air conditioning unit and goes down the vent. Also in the vent is a John McClane quote (Die Hard) which you need a light source to see. Note that video is from the censored Steam version of the game so the posters and images are replaced with images from SiN Emergence.

Some trivia; The nude woman is Julie Strain who was married to Kevin Eastman, hence the name of the texture being si_eastman1. Julie Strain provided the voice of the main character in Heavy Metal 2000. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119273/?ref_=nv_sr_2

Ritual, the creators of SiN, would go on to make a video game sequel to the Heavy Metal 2000 movie called Heavy Metal FAKK which also starred her as the voice of the main character.

Speaking of Heavy Metal FAKK... please come to GOG! That was such a cool third person action game.

Some more trivia; Wages of SiN was developed by 2015 which went on to create Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. The developers of Infinity Ward were members of 2015 that splintered off to create Call of Duty.

i personally think wages of sin is terrible compared to the original. the level design is meandering and bland, and with very little of the texture variety/props scattered around to bring it to life. the abandoned building level is a great example of this. 5 floors of completely empty rooms using the same 2 patterned textures. no tables, no computers, no chairs, nothing - and literally no reason to poke around them either. may as well simply go straight to the top floor.

i get the impression they were going for the Oni thing. Oni's designers said at the time they wanted more "realistic" environments since real world locations don't have a linear flow. unfortunately the meandering labyrinthine layouts that resulted from their "realistic" floorplans was the definition of dull, and wages of sin does the same thing. it's a snoozefest. in the next level at the warehouse you can find yourself wandering in circles for over 15 minutes trying to navigate a drab level without any enemies to fight.
