Anyone a bit sad this is the DOS version and not the windows one? :z
What's the difference between the two? I don't even know which version i played back then...
I also wonder if this comes with the Mission-CD which contains several disaster scenarios.
I think it is outstanding that Good Old Games is offering one of the SimCity games. But I wish it had been SimCity Enhanced instead. After plumbing was added SimCity just wasn't as much fun.

I just bought the game from GOG and there's plenty of scenarios that wasn't in the version I played when I was a kid.
Dunno if they are from the missions CD or not. Lots of disaster scenarios though.

Here's the list of all the scenarios in the GOG version:
Atlanta - UFO invasion
Barcelona - Terrorists detonated nuclear device
Charleston - Hurricane
Chicago - Pollution
Davenport - Mississippi flood
Dullsville - People are bored
Flint - Recession
Hollywood - Movie prop transforms into a monster
Homestead - Hurricane
Las Vegas - Crime
Malibu - Forest fire
Manhattan - Nuclear meltdown
Oakland Hills - Forest Fire
Paris - Gasoline tanker accident leads to fire
Portland - Volcano
San Francisco - Earthquake
Silicon Valley - New Energy source mulfunctions
Washington DC - Thousand of lawyers running amuck

The only difference I remembered was that the Windows one did not have the money cheat. ^_^

So why exactly should we be sad to have the DOS version? :D
I don't remember which version I played back then, probably the DOS one.

Anyway, I have just installed the game quickly on Linux through Wine, it works without problem. Except that I don't have music during the game. I'll try to install the game on Windows later to see if it's different.
I think I know why this is the DOS version, I beleve it is because the Windows version would have a serious issue when saving a city under Windows 7, does the DOS version avoid this as I may purchase the game for my Windows 7 Netbook?

I've played it under Win7 32bit without problems for over an hour now. So there shouldn't be any problems with the GOG version there...

It is the DOS version. It runs with Dosbox. On Windows 7, it will save your town under Users/"username"/Local/VirtualStore/ etc. if you installed the game in Program Files. I have just tried that.

Also, the music works during the game on Windows 7. I guess with Linux, it would need a little tweaking in the conf parameters.

I think it was a 64-bit issue with the Windows version, IIRC.
I consider this the best of the sims, tho I did not play all, I do know the amount of content this one provides and it was defintely a lot of fun to play back when it was new!

Loved the giant space robot orb that destroys everything!
The DOS version was the version I played back in the day, and firing up the game it's exactly as I remember it. I see many late nights resulting from this.

On a side note (story time), SimCity 2000 was the first game when I ran into the now all-too-common issue of my hardware not quite being up to the task of running the game. SC2000 had been a game I had been wanting for months (and this must have been back in 93 or 94, when I was all of 12 years old and a new computer game was far beyond my financial means), and I finally got it as a gift for my birthday (from my Grandma, no less). I had to wait several days before we got home before I could install it (we were visiting my grandma at the time), so after having spent several days building up anticipation I installed it, typed in the DOS commands to run it... and was promptly greeted by the message that the computer had insufficient RAM to run the game. Seems SC2000 required a whopping 4 MB of RAM, and our computer at the time was registering just shy of that amount. Fortunately we knew a "computer guy" who we got to perform some kind of voodoo on it (something with virtual memory settings, if memory serves), and I was finally able to run the game and spend many, many wonderful hours with it.

And now I can do so again.
Has anyone noticed that the game runs a little too fast?

I run at the turtle speed setting and even if I don't remember the original pace because it's been so long since I last played, I feel that it is quite fast. And I have a slow CPU.

I haven't tried to change the settings yet in the conf file. I hope I can slow things down a little.
