Most people experience lack of shadows and refractions in the game, due to new unsupported video cards.
This custom directx .dll fixes that problem.

Just place it in your Silent Storm folder, next to the .exe file.
Does this fix the flickering when the camera moves around the battle area (i assume caused by shadows)?

I haven't experienced flickering myself but you can give it a shot.
If it doesn't work, just delete the file, it doesn't replace anything.
Wow, I didn't realise there were supposed to be shadows. Just looked at an old youtube clip and it looks even better, though it looked alright as it was. Sadly the file doesn't help me :/

Edit: Trying again now it works for some reason! Thanks!

Yep, with shadows on there is flickering when moving camera. It is especially noticable in the first nazi mission. But you can reduce it by setting "setvar gfx_cl_sky_textures" in config.cfg to 1 or 0.
Thank you very much for the fix!

Hi, thx for the fix, but it creates one problem with my ATi card, now I can't apply Vsync throught D3DOverrider or Catalyst CC, so the game generates some overload on the card because is old and all the time the frames go up to 100 or more causing some tearing. I don't find a VSync option neither in the game menus nor the config files.

Do you know any way to fix this behaviour? Thx in advance!

P.S. Without the custom .dll I play with VSync OK.

Hi!
I'll add my problem here, as it's quite close belfador's problem. I also have problems to enable VSync on S1 with or without custom .dll. Catalyst CC does nothing to VSync and card is having overloading issues (getting frames between 100-1000!!).
Worked perfectly, thanks a lot!
I have applied this fix, and I get flickering when the shadows are turned on. Any ideas?

It's a sort of very light flicker over every texture in the game. It could even be full screen maybe?

EDIT: It seems to be the setting setvar gfx_cl_blur in the s3config file that causes it. With it turned off, the flickering turns off but the shadows go completely mental. Does anyone know what this setting does exactly?

DOUBLE EDIT: In future, if anyone else has this issue setting setvar gfx_swvertexprocess to 1.00 will solve the issue, but you will take a big performance hit.

I've been trying to fix this problem for a long time now, but when I put the .dll in my game directory, the game crashes on launch! It works fine without the .dll, but I don't get any lighting effects.

For me, the problem was the "in-game' overlay or renderer from Steam, Raptr, or Xfire. Sorry if that doesn't help. It's my only experience with that problem.

Yeah, it crashes no matter what if I try to launch it from Steam.
