I've had these problems with the Steam version as well. I bought this thinking that there would be a difference, that something would change. I was wrong.

I'm running this on Windows 7 64-bit, DirectX 11.

The frame rate is godawful. When I'm sailing around it's bad, but when I enter naval combat it gets REALLY bad. It slows down to a point where my ship and the other ships on screen barely move an inch a minute. It's painful.

The sound: When I boot up the game, immediately the sound is muffled, I can barely hear the audio. This continues when I play the game.

I've tried many things to fix this game: Upgrading my drivers, going in the Config.ini file and mess around with the audio options and the 3DAudioDriver, deleted certain programs that may have caused these issues, but none of these things helped.

This has been such a big pain in my fanny ever since I purchased it on Steam, and now here. I want you to know that I'm not the greatest with computers, so please, bare with me and help me try to fix these problems.
I have the same framerate problem as you do, though the sound is good.

Let's keep each other posted if either of us finds a solution to the frame rate problem.

Will do!
The issue has been resolved on my end, by updating to AMD Radeon 16.5.1 drivers released this week *and* disabling Crossfire.

The May update to the drivers did increase performance and where I was getting 15fps in naval battles before, it improved to 22 fps with the driver update and when I manually turned Crossfire off for Pirates, I got 31.5fps steady in naval battles.

(FPS measured with MSI Afterburner)

There clearly was some driver issue and the game does *not* like Crossfire.

So, for me at least, problem is solved. You never mentioned whether you had AMD drivers, Intel or nvidia, but disable Crossfire/SLI for that game if you have it.

I have NVIDIA,. Thank you for trying to help, but the game just won't work for me. I'm glad it's working for you, though!
I'll probably buy it for the original Xbox or wait for another remake (hopefully).

Sorry for this late and probably pointless reply. : ^) Cheers!
I have Nvidia GTX960.
Will be avoiding it for now.
WFM @ Win10 Pro, NVS4200M, i7-2620M, 8GB RAM. No lag no nothing, do you guys have a clean install or upgraded version?

Framerate is capped to 30fps anyway for some reason. (Some scenes have 60FPS cap)

Check yo drivers, don't use the crappy ones from Microsoft Update.

Also try updating DX9 runtimes. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

Hi all. If you're using multi-core CPUs, try setting the affinity to make the game run on only one core. I remember having this problem a few years back. That dealt with the speed related issues for me - however the version I tested with was not the GOG version.
