I have always played Civilization IV with the latest expansion (Beyond the Sword), so I actually don't know what the gameplay looked like with just the vanilla game or the first expansion (Warlords). Today I decided to try one of the Warlords-exclusive scenarios and the game has by default a 4:3 resolution (when I launch BTS, it's widescreen by default). Has it always been that way for Warlords? Is there a way to get a widescreen resolution working?

It's not a big problem, the game looks fantastic still... But maybe there is a very easy fix that I'm missing. Thanks in advance.

Advanced/Options/Graphics/Resolution(falling menu). Even in the first game (the GOTY edition). You can choose the native resolution of your screen there.

It looks beautiful in 2560x1440. The same in 1920x1200 or 1920x1080.
Thank you, that does the trick! For some reason it works different in Beyond the Sword (I didn't have to tweak anything).

You are welcome! The game looks really pretty, considering its age or not.

If you can, try "High detail terrain". It looks fine for me. Some use the Blue Marble tiles.
