Hello,

me and a friend of mine want to play Civ 4 together and we have been trying to get the multiplayer to work. I wanted to be the host on Direct IP, so I got my IP Address, I believe I opened the UDC port 2056, my firewall is down and still connection times out.

I have searched several forums on the internet and I think I only got even more confused. Does anyone have a step by step of how to actually have multiplayer to work?

Thanks
A router between you and the internet might be blocking the connection.

If your router uses Network Address Translation (NAT), then you have a private IP address, and your router has a public IP address. Players outside your local network can't connect to your private address. They can connect to the router's public address, but you would need to configure the router to forward a port from its public address to your private address. I don't play multiplayer Civ4 and don't know how to forward a port for Civ4.

Get your IP address from your system settings. Windows 10 has it at Windows Settings -> Network & Internet -> View your network properties -> IPv4 address. These addresses are private (RFC 1918):
- 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255
- 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
- 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255

Most websites will show the router's public address, but browserleaks dot com slash ip might also have your private address (under "WebRTC Leak Test" as "Local IP address").

hello Sorkary,

beside the forwarding thing mentioned above have a look here:
https ://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/unofficial-civ4-gamespy-multiplayer-firewall-router-port-forwarding-guide.14 9874/

Usually it solve connection issues in Direct IP games.

Best wishes, Luv
