I've just got AC again via GoG and I'm trying to work out how to either run it windowed or through Steam. Steam seemed to be a blowout, currently running it windowed through DXWnd at 1024x768, which is working well ... except the 256 colour palette screws up the rest of my screen in its 256-y sort of way.

Anyway to fix that? Naturally turning DirectDraw=0 fixes the colour, but if I'm running windowed in DXWnd, it naturally won't fit in the window, and since it's running at native resolution, I won't be able to window it appropriately.

Was wondering if DirectDraw had the option of say ... 2 ... with various video modes and still leave me with a window. Of course, I'm thinking DirectDraw is strictly boolean (1 or 0)

Any thoughts? Or do I have to suck up having warped display out of window?

I think that the only DirectDraw options are 0 or 1.

Here's a way to get the game to run in a window (sort of) that some players have found satisfactory: First, if necessary, remove the DirectDraw=0 command from the ini file. Next, start two different instances of the game. At this point you might run into severe color palette and screen resolution issues, but keep going. Finally, exit one instance of the game. The color palette should return to normal and the other instance of the game should be running in a "window" on your desktop.
