So, I've still got my working Alpha Centauri disc, but I never had the expansion. I've looked around a little bit, but asking people who've played them makes the most sense to me: Does the expansion add enough to be worth getting?

There's several new races, (with two of them having a new endgame), several new techs and units, along with a few quality of life tweaks.

Yep it does. You may choose to play the expansion without the new races though, in case you don't like them. That way you'll still benefit from the added features etc.
