I tried absolutely everything suggested in this forum and the inet, but still can't get smac run on my windows 7, notebook TT. My notebook is from Korea, could there be any language or region issues?

Editing the Alpha Centauri.ini file won't help as well, are there any other fixes or suggestions?

I have too.. on my desktop
I didn't find any suggestions for work this game.

but this game is work on my laptop.
is hardware compatible problem?

OS are same on my desktop and laptop(windows7 64bit-korean)
all driver is lastest version.

Desktop is

E6600 core2duo 2.4Ghz
260GTX geforce
5GB RAM
realtek HD audio

Laptop is

MACBOOK 09 LATE on Bootcamp
P7550 core2duo 2.26Ghz
9400M geforce
4GB RAM
Cirrus Logic CS4206A

My Supporting result from GOG.com Support team(Thanks!!) against this problem is

related on Windows Service.

I trying all Service Turn on/off check

this is result in my case.


-Kill your 'Windows Event Log' Service-

and RUN SMAC.

and I can't type Korean Language. Language selection Button is no more work.


!!!! Additional !!!!

Kill service is required reboot and can't use Language selection.

that is very annoying.

real problem is keyboard IME problems.

Follow next steps.

1. Go Control Panel

2. Click Clock, Language and region

3. Click Keyboards and Languages

4 Click the Keyboards and Languages tab and then click change keyboards.

5. Check your Basic Input language select

EN English -> NO CRASH

KOREAN Microsoft IME -> CRASH

KOREAN Microsoft Office IME 2007 -> NO CRASH and Multi Language Keyboard Work!!


My problem was completely resolved !!

근데, 조금 부끄럽지만, Windows Event Log은 어떻게 삭제하는 거요?

그 서비스 그냥 켜도 되더군요.

해당 서비스랑 한국어 키보드입력기가 엮여서 문제가 되더라고요.

제어판-국가 및 언어 가셔서

키보드변경 누르시고, 기본 입력 언어가 Microsoft 입력기로 되어있다면

그게 문제가 맞을겁니다.


한국어 입력기 중에는

Microsoft Office IME 2007이 있다면 기본 입력 언어를 그걸로 맞춰주시면 되고,

아마도 오피스 IME는 마이크로소프트 홈페이지에서 따로 받을 수도 있었던걸로 기억합니다.


혹시 Microsoft Office IME 계열이 없고, 별도 설치하시기 힘드시면

그냥 추가 버튼 누르셔서 영어(미국)-US 입력기를 추가해주시고,

알파센타우리 할때만 키보드 변경하시면 쉽습니다.


서비스를 끄는건 추천드리지 않는데다가 한글입력이 먹통이되고,

재부팅도 해야되서 귀찮거든요.

Some people forget to try "run compatability mode", "run administrator" under properties. Have you all done this? Do you know how to do this?

Windows 7 has a troubleshoot option. If you are using any other than 7, it's probably something else. You did not mention if you have "run as administrator" checked.

If you are not an administrator on the computer, tell your mother that this is causing problems.

Download the unofficial patch by kyrub.

I don't know if GOG includes the official patch and /compatibility fix...

trying to start alpha centauri but get "terran.exe" stopped working. New program from gog. Tried as administrator - no go. Getting angry! AND get message "terranx.exe" stopped working when I tried alia crossfire. Getting angrier!!

SORRY should have mentioned I was using windows 8.1 for alpha centauri and alian crossfire.

I get the same thing, except I have Win7 64bit. No compatibility mode will do.

I had exactly the same problem, fixed it by disabling the opening movie in the Alpha Centuri.ini

just change the value on "DisableOpeningMovie" from "0" to "1"

I've done this. It still does not run. Same message as before, Terran.exe has stopped working. I also have Japanese IME running for Japanese input but using only roman letters. Maybe I will try the "Korean" solution above.

I have been trying to get AC to run for the past day, but I simply get the 'terran.exe has stopped working' error a few seconds after running. I am running Windows 8.1 x64 UK English.

I have tried all of the various fixes and ini edits I could find on the forum, but nothing has helped so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
