There is a big problem with the SMAC+AC package. The patching of the game is messed
up by the new expansion. I can confirm that the Alien Crossfire 2.0 patch is not installed. The version says 1.0 in-game. Files in the gamefolder is older than the 2.0 update and several files are not present at all. Also the XP-patch is already installed but should be applied after the 2.0 update
If that's true, you'd be better off e-mailing support. In a very low traffic subforum like this one, you can pretty much guarantee that they won't see it.
Done!
Might this be related to the new update?
Well, for what it's worth, I looked at it as well and can confirm that it appears the Alien Crossfire 2.0 patch is indeed missing. From the file dates and the files present, it appears that GOG took the Planetary Pack ( Looks like it is at version 1.0 of SMAX ), and applied the SMACXP patch ( which just updates the SMAC files ), and then did their magic to the executables to make them run in more modern operating systems.

Personally, I just took the Alien Crossfire 2.0 patch, unzipped it, and copied ( and overwrote ) all the files into the game directory except to the two executables ( terran.exe and terranx.exe ) and the .icd file ( although I don't believe the GoG version uses this file ). This appears to update the game to 2.0.

I did notice the the SMACXP patch doesn't appear to affect any SMAX files, so the only real reason to install it after the Alien Crossfire 2.0 patch is to update the original SMAC executable, which isn't necessary if one retains the GoG updated .exe.

The only real concern I would have to updating the game in this fashion is if the Alien Crossfire 2.0 patch made some important update to the terranx.exe file, which wouldn't be fixed in the current game download, as the .exe appears to be based on the version 1.0 .exe. I use Scient's unofficial SMAX patch executable, however, and I haven't had any problems yet.

I apologize for the wall of text, if anyone is still reading at this point :-).

Uh.... what else would you do? That's what a patch is. I suppose he's just complaining that it's not done for him?

As for the executable, I use Kyrub's (SMAC...). If they've modified code in the executable, this is in no way useful for those who want to use unofficially updated versions of the game which patch the AI and other bugs. But then, I have never had any problem running AC on Windows 7 (or XP...).

I think he wanted to call to everyone's attention that the game was unpatched, as I would have expected GoG to have the latest update incorporated myself.

Actually, now that I look at it, I'm using the SMAX Unofficial Patch Plus.

Hopefully, Scient or Kyrub will continue the fantastic work they have done. I have always felt Alpha Centauri was the best 'Civ' game of the lot.
There is a more developed patch for SMAC in case you use that.

Updating the game with just the 2.0 update will overwrite some files from the XP-patch.
At least a file called "script" and a couple of others. Just telling.....

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a try when I play SMAC next...I have a pretty good game going in SMAX right now, however, so I 'll just download it for later use... { off to load and play }.
New update for SMAC from GOG!!
I can confirm. The new patch upgrades Alien Crossfire to 2.0.

If you need to see for yourself press CTRL-F4 in game to see version number. The GOG installer says it is version 2.0 to 2.0.1. I presume the addition of the expansion was version 2.0. Bought this game pre Alien Crossfire, glad to see this addition at no extra cost.

This is one of the reasons I buy games from GoG whenever I can.... The original poster sent a message to support what, 17 hours ago? And here is the patch...fantastic...going off to download now...
Sorry to interrupt your fairy-tale, but GOG does not fix many after 17 months.

Not that they would be bad at it, it just fluctuates a lot.

This does raise the question of why they gave us an old version of Alien Crossfire in the first place. It's not like Alien Crossfire 2.0 wasn't available a couple of weeks ago.
