I bought it yesterday, play it for the first time and I love it :-) Since I love anime and generally Japanise storytelling and style, it couldn't be better :D What do you say? How much money is this game worth? :D
Definitely more than 6$ :)
It's so fun, with gore, japanese characters, mecchas, BIG GUNS and awesome levels!
IMO the lithtech engine has done its time... There are several bugs very annoying on the newer pcs like the foes with extreme low reaction time (more like wallhack, lol.). This drawback is also to be mentionned on Shogo's brother, Blood 2, sadly.
Few missions will stay in my mind, like fetching a cat to open some gates :D
So put apart the Lithtech engine, it's a very good game with a lot of action and very cool stuff (pictures, easter eggs...) Definitely worth it. Oh, did I mention it contained two different endings? Well in one you get a big BIG gun...
Heh, I'll put this review on the site.

Hehe, yeah, basically big guns, lots of firepower and small people to run over :D
I put in a huge review, but here's my main views on it;
It's got some issues, but I do love my robots, I does. Oh, and I love the hell out of the "Critial Shot" bonus health. I love it. But those insta-lock-on-and-headshot-you AIs kinda make the human sections a little...meh.
The anime story is there, I don't mind it, and it doesn't mind me. What I do LOVE is the random humour. Amish Death Metal, for the win.
I'm not that far through the game, and it's the first time I've played it, but I am also loving it! Great, over-the-top story, fun shooting and a style of its own. I actually enjoy the human shooting sections as well as the mech ones, although you die a lot, it's also quite satisfying, running and gunning and desperate not to get hit...then a door opens and someone hits you with a rocket, killing you instantly.
I had this game (from a magazine) years ago.
Mech parts were the best.
I have this game somewhere but I still bought it from here and it plays really nice (apart from some sound issues at first). I remember loving the dual pistols when I first played it and they still feel really good. Had a few more one shot kills that I would have liked but it's still a great game. Love the music.
I finished it yesterday and was reminded on how sucky some parts of this game are.
Boss fights for example. they are pathetic. no real fighting whatsoever.
You aim with your strongest weapon, press left button, let it go after the boss is dead. last boss doesn't even move. (when you don't say you will be loyal)
other ending is sucky too. you shoot feet of huge robot. that's it.
but normal gameplay was fun. quite simple though.
My friends and I would have LAN parties with this game. Lots of yelling and screaming in the multiplayer matches. Those freaking grenades and rockets :)
Did all of you remap the controls from the defaults? I was shocked that they weren't the W,A,S,D keys at first... then I had to remind myself that this game came out quite a bit ago :p
Nice theme and whatnot, but theres something seriously wrong with the enemy AI. Like NOLF enemies shoot before they even see you around corners, only NOLF didn't punish you this severely. I get killed just opening a door, as the guy on the other side mysteriously can shoot right through it.
Enemies do massive damage unless you pick them off even before you see them, which is rediculous. It's like you need to know where everyone before walking into a room. So it basically boils down to constantly quicksaving and reloading and shooting before you enter the room.
This is on normal btw, but really it can't get any worse on the harder difficulties. Maybe I'll try it on easy, but I'm not happy with this. Especially since before this particular level I was doing fine.
I just got the game and tried it out. It was fun to see some anime references in the first walking level like a door with the name cdr R. Hunter and the "evangelion" and "min mai" poster.
wow i ordered shogo on amazon for $18 on amazon and just today i saw gog.com on G4 and saw shogo MAD for like $5, and i have never been so mad at myself, but otherwise this website/digital distribution is my dream come true being able to play classics for cheap without fighting for them on ebay or paying to much on amazon

Welcome on gog.com then! ;)
Shogo is quite a good shooter. I played it long time ago and if I good remember there was a lot of oldschool quick save / quick load included. :) Enemies reaction time was lethal.
It's fun, but I found it kind of lacking in several ways. Your human character's serious fragility, the silly plot, the basically unlikeable (not "Bad," just... not appealing) characters, and the fact that most of the human weapons are basically the same bugged me.
Not my favorite shooter or mech-sim, but not bad for six bucks.

This version of the LIthtech engine may be dated, but the engine itself is still going strong, pumping out more modern games like F.E.A.R. and Tron 2.0
The reaction time and accuracy of enemies was just as bad when the game was new as well. I played it when it was relatively new, and the on foot sections were especially hard. That's just part of that era of gaming. Not every game had iD's programing team. Shogo is a great game, and a nice part of FPS history. It doesn't hold up as well as some of the other games that were from it's era, but it really pushed the boundaries on storytelling, graphics and game play.
