I want to run a mage. Mages begin with Powerball.
But as soon as I get into the game I get offered a weapon After that I can't access the powerball spell. Other spells, yes, but not powerball.
Hiving a gun equipped seems to block the spell.
But neither do I know how to unequip the gun.
Nor is there an option to tell the npc I don't want the offered weapon.

I suspect I'm just missing some obvious option, but what is it?

In order to be able to equip your stored weapons/spells you need access to your stash. I assume here you're playing Dead Man's Switch? Unfortunately you don't get access to your stash for a while, so you won't be able to swap for a few scenes yet.

The thing is, I'm pretty sure everyone starts off with two weapon slots, and I'm also pretty sure one of those should be empty.

Or are you talking about not being able to access it during combat despite having it in your inventory? If so you just need to switch weapons (should be able to switch between any weapon plus your bare hands).
@Squid830: I can switch between the gun and my bare hands. There seems to be no option to switch to the Powerball.
Perhaps I need to try that again, in case I missed something.
Can you let me know when I will find my stash? . I just fought the Halloweeners. Now I'm at the Seamstresses Union building.

ETA: I went back and checked. You were right, and my bad. I can switch to the Powerball during combat. Thanks.

No probs, good to see you sorted it out.

And FYI you're pretty close to your stash - it's in the Seamstresses Union. You won't be able to get to it the first time you go in there from memory - you'll have to wait till you get back. Which shouldn't be a huge problem.

Also a semi-exploit: whenever you buy something at a shop/vendor, you will have access to your stash after your purchase as long as you buy something. Well I don't think it's really "exploitable" in Dead Man's Switch but it definitely is in one level near the end of Dragonfall, where it helps a LOT - buy one cheap item at shop, then access stash and swap a bunch of medkits/docWagons/etc. in that I used...
