I really hope the patch shows up soon. Getting patches later is one of my major pet peeves with GOG's service.

Especially for the conversations, I think they feel so overbearing, because the runs tend to be so short. There's so much downtime between the runs, that the game becomes more about getting your ears chewed off by the Ka Feis, then doing runs. And especially the Ka Feis really get on my teets. It should all be solveable by them simply talking to each other face to face, instead I am forced to read throiugh each individuals baby-problems over and over and over again. I'm at a point, where I simply want to grab them at their horns and drag them into the same fucking room, so they actually fucking talk to each other already.

And don't get me wrong. They are all interesting characters that I'd like to know more about, but it's just too much of this and not enough running.

Exactly!

I would have preferred longer runs - even with more/extended conversations during those runs - and less conversation with vendors outside of runs.

The conversation with your fellow runners was mostly OK, although a lot of this seemed to finish up with around 5 runs to go. At least we can always get their opinion of the last run which was a nice touch carried over from Dragonfall.

But yes I was tempted to tell the Ka Fais to go to hell. Come to think of it, next time I play through this I think I'll either ignore their crap entirely, or convince them all to leave on their own paths... ;)

Banjo_oz: Sigh, was waiting for 3.0.4 to play, and was all set to do so today... but it seems 3.0.5 is such a big list of fixes, that I'll wait for that one to come here now instead. Hopefully it's only a few days... please, GOG?
Yup, end of Thursday the 27th, still no .5, and I'm torn between wanting to play and not getting stuck/bugged/otherwise have things be "weird" while playing.

I'm thinking a thread on patch notes may not be the best place to discuss story/plot/pacing/design decisions. It's rather off-topic and certainly it's less likely anyone from HBS will actualy see it. (Poetry of course is still okay. :)

I don't mind the typos so much as the bugs... typos can be fixed later. Broken missions is a much bigger issue!

I'd love GOG to put a bigger priority on getting patches out to their customers; it's IMO their biggest flaw, and the only thing that makes Steam look "better" (though for me, it's a no-brainer!). I actually Kickstarted the game and have copies of SRHK on both Steam *and* GOG, but I just feel dirty everytime I start up that Steam client, so will hold out as long as I can... :)

As for problems with the game itself, I'm not sure but I think the devs do read the Steam forums at times, and at least with previous games did occasionally visit the Shadowrun Universe boards, where some of us have been discussing the good and bad of the SRHK changes at length, and coming up with fixes that still keep within the spirit of what was intended (such as making Decking have a much bigger influence on the difficulty of the "real time" elements of the new matrix system).

Agreed.

Having said that the game's playable and completable with 3.0.4 - I didn't personally encounter any dead-end bugs. It's just that you might miss out on some minor content, be unable to avoid an extra fight or two, or be unable to sell a couple of paydata items.

That last point is probably a bit more annoying in this game than the previous ones since the cash-flow is so low while there's also more stuff to buy.

Speaking of stuff to buy, I'm a bit disappointed they didn't add a feature to enable shops to be able to adjust their prices. As it stands, the price of an item is set by the item and not the shop. Not a big deal, and modders can get around it using conversations for merchants, but it would have made more sense if different merchants had different prices - especially when those you encounter during missions always tell you how "special" their prices are.
Oh, sweet. And the Linux version here is still on 3.0.3.
And I had hopes of downloading and installing the game I backed on Kickstarter maybe this weekend. But of course one doesn't want to download a few GB of a version that is known to contain more bugs than a recent release. *sigh*
Why does it take so much longer for GOG to publish an update? This is frustrating!

GOG does some QA/testing on the installer and patching process, which takes some time.

I'm fine with ~one day delay for such things, but when it starts stretching like that (Linux/Mac users still don't have the 3.0.4 patch, not even speaking of the 3.0.5...) it starts being frustrating yeah...

I hope one day they'll manage to get the pipeline smooth enough so we'll get the patches for all OS in the working day following the release by the upstream.

I think HK just might be the stingiest of the Shadowrun games thus far, even without the pay data bugs, you really have to watch what you spend.

I'm considering doing a cyberware toon next just to see if there's enough nuyen at all to chrome yourself out properly at end game.

Shadowrun Hong Kong is severely testing my recent decision to buy games from GoG rather than steam when a choice is available.

I have a bug that I *think* is fixed in 3.0.5 (hang in the whisteblower mission that prevents completion) and I have been waiting for the fix to resume my play through. I was (initially) fine with waiting a day or two for the patch to be uploaded, but... two days have passed, and we are now looking at a weekend.

I understand that GoG employees should get to enjoy their weekend, so I do not become angry when a patch released on Friday is delayed until Monday... But here we are looking at a Wednesday patch that is unlikely to be available until Monday!!! I am not cool with this. Next time I buy on Steam.

Well I reckon that if they want to keep up with Steam, they may need to employ people for weekend work. It doesn't even have to be the same people - I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to find some enthusiastic people that would be willing to do this part-time. They could also outsource this aspect to other countries, which could further help reduce delays depending on their location (because it's always working hours somewhere in the world).

While I can understand some delay due to the way GOG bundles up patches, even allowing for GOG to create a patch file from updated content shouldn't take this long. Unless the patch blew up their servers or something...

On the other hand, I don't think Humble has been updated yet either. And the 3.0.5 patch hasn't appeared on not-so-legitimate sites yet - if it appears there before we get it, then there's something seriously wrong with GOG.

But I'm still not buying on Steam.

It's definitely the stingiest for sure. It's VERY noticeable if you did what I did and play a decker while trying to get decent ranged weapons and/or cyber as well. I didn't even get the best deck, nor the best gun, and the only cyber I got apart from the datajack I started with was the Alpha eyes. Didn't bother with the best programs either since by then I figured they weren't really necessary.

I'm sure I could have done a lot better, since I did buy a lot of crap - upgraded a bit too often, plus bought lots of drugs, grenades and med kits (most of which I didn't actually end up using). Also I'm pretty sure there were times when I didn't actually use something I gave a team-mate, but I didn't get it back after.

Glancing at the steam forums, it's definitely possible to end up pretty heavily chromed by the end if you're a little bit more disciplined with your nuyen than I was.

Agreed - I think from now I'm going back to just using GoG for, well, old games. (And CDPRed games.)
Honestly, this is where GOG suffers for new titles. For old games they have earned a terrific reputation, but for newer releases the patching process is a real friction point. :(
