I'm contemplating trying my hand at a screenshot LP of DF:DC, but the thought of taking screenshots for each and every line of dialogue and transcribing it all manually is giving me shingles. Does anyone know if there is a way to extract dialogue from the game files?

Sure is.

Fire up the SRR editor, then locate and load the DF:DC game module. I think the editor starts in the correct directory, so it should (hopefully) be easy to find.

Then choose the option "save as source" from one of the menus, and save to a location of your choosing. Now all conversations will be in that directory under data/convos. Plus (in case you want them) the scripts for all scenes will be under data/scenes (e.g. for triggers and the like).

Note that the dialogue files won't be named very coherently - so either view them through the editor, or do a search for the character's name and/or location to find the one you're looking for. Also it's probably easier to follow the flow via the editor, as in the text file you have to jump around a fair bit - but it's definitely doable once you figure out the structure.
