I can't update the game. I downloaded the latest installers and patches for both the base game and Dragonfall but either patch and the Dragonfall installer all tell me that my assets are the wrong version of the game.

Check your game version in the main menu when you are in the game, if you see 1.2.5, then you are already updated :)

Can you tell me what are the versions of the installers you have for all three files for SRR and Dragonfall?
I don't see a version listed anywhere on the main menu.

And my patches and installers are:
setup_shadowrun_returns_2.1.0.6.exe
patch_shadowrun_2.1.3.9.exe
setup_shadowrun_dragonfall_dlc_2.1.3.9.exe
patch_shadowrun_2.1.1.7.exe

The latter three all saying that my game is teh wrong version. The patch for the base game also generated a patch_log.txt file with the following in it:

Shadowrun Returns patch log
Update from version 2.1.2.8 to 2.1.3.9

The game version is shown in the in-game PDA

Do you have any UGC installed? Some UGC affects the core game strangely.

Looks like it may be 1.2.5 then which is confusing since none of the patches actually worked.

And UGC is user generated content, right? I don't have any of that installed yet.
I have the same problem here, and then some!

I had installed Shadowrun Returns and the expansion under E:\Program Files\.

I had also installed some previous patches, I don't recall their version now as I deleted the setup files.

I believe it may have been the very first universal patch that didn't have a separate expansion version download.

I just saw the game has been updated. I tried to install the patch, the log said a bunch of files were the wrong version.

I figured I need to re-download the expansion instead, I did that and it wouldn't install, my version is unsupported.

However I also can't actually play the game. I can launch it, but then the launch campaign buttons don't work.

The exit button doesn't work either so I need to close the game with Alt+F4. The other menu buttons work.

In the campaign selection screen the campaigns are shown as version 1.0 and 1 respectively, from 3/3/2014.

Windows 8.1 x64, i7 3770K, AMD 7970. The game worked fine before trying to patch it again to my knowledge.

The Shadowrun.exe properties details tab state file version 4.2.0.11237, product version 4.2.0.76773.

This is bullshit. Nothing worked, so I uninstalled the game, downloaded and installed again. The new patch still didn't work right with a bunch of missing files mentioned in the log, this time many more asset files rather than just the exe and others mentioned as incompatible the first time. Then the expansion installer still didn't recognize the core version of the game and didn't want to work at all. I then tried the process without installing the core patch first, in case the expansion also automatically updated the game to work with it. No go. The game appears to work (though who knows if those missing files would cause issues in certain parts) but without the expansion. What is going on? The patch log says it's trying to patch 2.1.2.8 to 2.1.3.9 but the game installer is for version 2.1.0.6 so we're at least missing a 2.1.0.6 to 2.1.2.8 patch.

PM me? Maybe I can help :)
If you think you can help then you PM me, or post here as I may not be the only one with a problem.

I don't have any meaningful information to add past the last edit in the previous post (that last line).

3 hours later, I guess not. Oh well. I redeemed a Steam copy and it appears to work just fine now.

Fix the problems for others, as there's absolutely no reason this would be system specific for me.

Same sort of problems.

With a fresh uninstall, wipe, and re-download of all new files:
1) The core game installs fine.
2) The patch won't install due to version conflict.
3) Dragonfall won't install due to version conflict.

Boooo!

Onyx3173:
patch_shadowrun_2.1.1.7.exe ? You don't need this . It's old patch . Install route is

setup_shadowrun_returns_2.1.0.6.exe > setup_shadowrun_dragonfall_dlc_2.1.3.9.exe > patch_shadowrun_2.1.3.9.exe ;)
We uploaded an all-new installer for Shadowrun Returns that should help those with version 1.2.5 installation troubles.

Do the following:

1. Uninstall everything using the game's uninstaller.
2. Download the new Shadowrun Returns installer (file name: Setup_shadowrun_returns_2.1.3.9.exe )
3. Download the DLC installer, if you haven't already. (file name: setup_shadowrun_dragonfall_dlc_2.1.3.9.exe )
4. Run the installer for the base game and then the DLC and you should be at version 1.2.5

Let me know if this helps :D
The new installer works as advertised. Thank you.

Yes, it's a silent update. Well, semi-silent since I told everyone in this thread about it :)
