All three games are 32bit, and will not work in macOS 10.15 Catalina since Apple removed 32bit software support from macOS unless the developer / publisher releases 64bit versions.

Wont work with new ios (ipad) versions either (same 64bit reason), and the developers have already commented they wont bother to update (because paradox wont foot the bill).

I am currently in-game and playing it fine on macOS Mojave (10.14.6). For any Mac users out there interested in what has been a great game so far, fear not. Either the OS was adapted to allow some 32-bit app support in later versions of macOS or the game was eventually patched… I presume the former.

Apple hasn't yet phased out support for 32-bit apps in macOS Mojave, but it is reportedly coming before long (this fall is the last I saw).

That said, while I can't speak for the first two games, the latest version of Hong Kong at least is a 64-bit app according to the system profiler on my iMac.

Good to know—thanks for that insight! I will have to search online for more info, but at least I can Dragonfall for now! I will save HK for later then.
Perhaps someone knows, since my understanding of building a game in Unity is nonexistent, but if it is being built in-suite with Unity (or Unreal, CryEngine, Source, etc) can the end product not simply be re-exported as a 64-bit package?

I can’t post the reference link (new account limitations here) to Unity’s forums claiming it is as simple as exporting a JPEG versus a PNG using Photoshop, but for reference: answers.unity.com/answers/1161085/

Yup, Mojave works fine but Catalina is going to kill this game.

Which is really odd, as Dragonfall is older but (as it is 64bit) it will still be playable.

I can confirm this. As I posted before my system profiler under Mojave listed Hong Kong as a 64-bit app, but it no longer runs after installing Catalina.

Apologies to anyone led astray by my earlier post.

Update:

Catalina also still shows Hong King to be 64-bit. I've found several other apps, too, that were listed as 64-bit but fail to launch with no error message, as seems to be the norm for 32-bit apps in Catalina.

I don't know whether the cause is incorrect identification of 64- vs 32-bit apps, or if there is some other issue causing some 64-bit apps to fail in the same way, but it looks like System Information's listing of 64- vs 32-bit is not a good predictor of what will still run in Catalina.

All three games are listed as 32-Bit on my system running Mojave. Don't know why the discrepancy. Both The Witcher and The Witcher 2 are listed as 64-bit on my system as well, but GOG has removed the Mac versions from sale.

Strange. It woudl be nice if there was a definitive listing somewhere of what runs and doesn't in Catalina. Mac Gamer HQ does some of this but their list is pretty limited. I also tried looking on Steam but some games shown there as not working in Catalina actually do, at least the versions from GOG that I own.
