I stayed away from media on 3 because when I like a game I stay away from media. Then I heard that the voice actor and comedy was drastically different and the gameplay was very Doom 2016..

So I watched and the new voice actor is awful compared to the one before. Also the jokes.. so tame and way more politically correct.

It's ok to have some fun.. I don't understand why they changed it and I was about to buy it but now? No ty.

Having played it from start to finish, 5 hours, they killed the franchise.

The voice acting is bad, the gameplay is a weak doom-esque thing. It can be fun for a quick weekend play when it's 75% off or something. But other than that, Flying Wild Hog dropped the ball. I'm disappointed as hell.

Maybe not have killed, just postponed future productions for another 15~ years.

Getting an actor that's Asian shouldn't be necessary since it's voice acting. It's acting. Any voice actor can try to talk like an Asian. You're never going to see the actor. Lo Wang had huge tattoos. Is the voice actor also covered with tattoos? What's going on here?

In general, I don't think this is necessary (Unless of course the character's ethnic/cultural background is a major element to the character/plot then, perhaps. Shadow Warrior does specifically theme itself on Asian culture but not in a particularly accurate or meaningful way so it doesn't seem as important). I just also don't think it's this massive upheaval of what the games are all about as it's being presented. I personally don't think they would have received any backlash had they kept the original actor and I don't think they needed to change him, and I'd honestly be willing to give the complaints more benefit of the doubt if we weren't talking about a community who claims a game is political whenever a female character is wearing long sleeves.

Haven't played it yet (because GOG doesn't want people to buy the Deluxe Edition for whatever reason) but from the gameplay I've seen so far it looks like FWH finally made the gunplay actually good and fun this time which would be the first time in the whole reboot series. I don't mind that it's mostly a Doom Eternal clone because that game is one of the best AAA fps games relased in the last couple years and FWH seems to have copied the combat loop well enough at least. I'm sure I wouldn't have a bad time with this game.

Having played all 3 games, I can say with confidence that the gunplay/combat is probably SW3's biggest strength, and the one advantage it has over its predecessors (well that and, the enemies feel the most distinct in SW3). Even though I prefer the previous two games, FWH always had a way of making guns feel kind of weak and underwhelming to use in those. Most people seem to agree that it's just as well, as the melee weapons are where the party's at in those games, and they're right, but that's a point I'll give to SW3 for sure, the guns and shooting feel much better. On the flip side of that, they seem to have kind of nerfed the sword play to some extent, making the sword a constant side-arm instead of an individual weapon, and while it does have obtainable special moves like the previous games, they're kind of more awkward to trigger and I found myself rarely interested in trying to use them. Plus, the sword being the right-click weapon at all times means that alternate firing modes are gone. It's also the smallest arsenal of the series, though that didn't bother me a ton since I don't tend to have more than 2 or 3 weapons or so that I use regularly in a given shooter.

The drawback to being a DOOM Eternal clone however is, if you enjoyed the exploration element of the first two games, there's none of that to be found here. The first FWH Shadow Warrior was mostly linear but did have a layout that allowed for some exploring and secret hunting. SW3 does have a few 'secrets' but they're never far from the main path, which is so linear that it's practically on rails. Even the modern DOOM games have more fleshed out exploration than SW3. But if you're into DOOM's combat then for sure, this is probably the closest approximation of it that you're gonna get without playing DOOM itself.
