V3nom: Also, a LAN implementation would be a kind of fix (at least a workaround) for everything : mates in the same location could play without having to pass through internet latency, and for the others, just put everybody on hamachi, et voilà.
+LAN and +Direct Connect (by IP)
(and hybrid type: for example two players over steam plus one over Direct Connect / 2 players over LAN and one over Gog Galaxy and one over Direct Connect (owner of steam version).

It will totally solve problem with crossplay coop. Owner of ANY version (Steam / GOG) can play coop with owners of ANY version.
I already had read that, thanks, it still doesn't invalidate my "hamachi" suggestion to support a bit further the lan implementation.

Direct Connect option (along with LAN option) makes "hamachi" simply unnecessary.
Having Direct Connect (BOTH LAN and Direct Connect actually) is preferable, because it simply does not require separate programs and services.
However, nothing prevents to use them, if you so badly want.
I already know everythings of this. I just pointed out only LAN and the hamachi possibility because direct-connect is pretty rare nowadays, and even Lan tends to be more and more forgotten, it's an unpleasant tendancy that's starting, mainly in huge productions.

My post was "put at least Lan if you don't wanna add anything more". Of course Lan + direct + hybrid (as you are asking) is better, but good luck to obtain everything of this after the release.

I was very much on the fence about this game given the new "Borderlands" approach, I'm glad I waited because now I can't buy this if it doesn't have proper "crossplay", the idea is mainly to play with friends both with GOG and Steam versions.

(A note apart, is sad we have to call "crossplay" a feature that let's us play with other people on PC).

jpmakela: My steam friend sent me an invite to his invite only game and steam showed me a message that had "-connect_galaxy_lobby=[long number here]". I was able to select a savefile and join his game by starting the GoG version from the commandline with that command appended.

It's a horrible workaround but it works. Hope they make it a bit easier soon.
okay yeah I just confirmed this works, so this is not even a technical issue it's an interface one. no idea how to get my lobby # from galaxy so steam pals can join ME, though.

Yeah the wor around is horrible and now it doesnt work for me anymore ...
The Steam and Gog public parties seem to be different too. I thought they would run on the same Server?
GOG,

What is being done to allow seamless play between GOG and steam versions of the game?
