What does the alternative soundtrack contain?
This question / problem has been solved by Malek86image
I'm not sure, honestly. They sound the same to me. Perhaps the alternative soundtrack gives more emphasis to bass sounds... but that might be just a placebo effect.
Here is what you will find in both the Soundtrack and Alternative Soundtrack.

Soundtrack: <Size 81 MB>

I agree both sets of tracks do have a minor difference in sound, try playing both of these tracks and it is easier to hear.
<Soundtrack> Shadow Man soundtrack - 19. Title
<Alternative Soundtrack> Shadow Man Alt. OST - Main Theme

There are also more tracks in the Alternative Soundtrack. (31 vs 22)

I've sent an inquiry to GOG, hopefully they'll respond with more information on the origin of the Alternative Soundtrack.

If they shed any light on the mystery I'll post the answer here. ;)

In the mean time I'll keep grooving to the Shadow Man: Title Theme. ^_^
Here is the response I got back from GOG!

Hello

There are differences in tracks - how they sound and alternative soundtrack has a few tracks more. They are quite similar but in a same time have differences so we decided to add both of them to the bonus content. It's only an alternative soundtrack and not a different one.

Rock on! ^_^

That's true for a lot of older games, but this way GOG is bringing the music to people's attention and making it easy to just download and listen.

This too. There are some tracks that don't appear in that soundtrack, and can only be obtained via rummaging in the data folder. For example, the music when you return to the tenements after defeating the boss, or the one when you go in the swamps.
Thank you for pointing out those extra tracks lurking in the data folder. :)
Shadow Man has such excellent music! ^_^
You're welcome. There's also something on Spotify, search for Tim Haywood as artist or Shadow Man as album
