I get up to the big red barn and when I click on the doors the game goes black likes its going to show a video then windows says the game has stopped responding. I am running Windows 7. I was wondering if there was a fix as I cant continue in the game.

I got it to work by setting it to use Win98 Compat mode. It basically forces the program to use one core with out doing anything externally.

I've been having crash problems as well. I'm playing this on my laptop. I have put on the compatibly settings but still it randomly crashes. It usually happens after a certain amount of time playing, as i 5 minutes or so. It also tells me its need a different screen resolution that what I'm running on.

I'm having that same problem but am getting a spe;cific error: "sntrm.exe has stopped working". Anybody had that one?

I don't know what happened, but now it's working. I don't recall changing anything on the computer, so I'm not sure what caused it. It still crashes sometimes, but it is rare. Before I couldn't even get into the game, it would almost immediately crash.

That's the one I am having trouble with, too.
Right now, I followed @Stuff's advice and installed it as an administrator.
It seems to have something to do with the transitions between a video and the gameplay.
I hope it'll work!

Mine is also crashing now, in chapter 4... Tried all the suggestions here, updated to the 1.1 patch, patched the executable with imgcfg to use 1 thread, different compatibility modes, etc... etc... Nothing seem to work.

GoG please fix this game.

My version is crashing all the time also... can you please post the link to where you downloaded the patch? The Megaupload link doesn't seem to work (cookies enabled)

Same here. Constant crashes. I'm running Win 7 64 bit on a 1 1/2 year old "fairly good" Gateway desktop. I'm running as Administrator and have tried every combination of Compatibility. I also reinstalled the game as Administrator, still crashes. I know this game is listed as not compatible with Win 7. I've tried out and played 5 other GOG games that aren't Win 7 compatible, but they have worked well. Good game, frustrating to try and play.

Same here, too. I get it (most of the time) when trying to talk to people, just when it's about to open up the dialog menu. I tried everything, except the reinstall (which i'm doing right now). Sometimes i get constant crashes about 1-2 minutes after loading up the game. I found that restarting is a good way to fix this temporary. Then I can play for about 10-20 minutes. I really hope we'll find a way to fix this. Has anyone tried using a virtual machine for this?

I barely get past the intro and I get a Windows error saying the program has to be shut down -- I run Windows XP -- tried running it in Win95 compatibility mode and still got the same problem

==EDIT== Set it for 256 Color compatibility and seems to be working alright for now...
==EDIT 2 == Had the same problem, setting it to Win95 Compatibility and 256 Color only seemed to work... so far :)
==EDIT 3 == Set it run in 640x480 as well -- still crashes at random...
