MarkoH01: Could you explain this problem for me? I don't know anything about this and why did steam have several SR4 save file formats? Maybe I misunderstood you completely though ...
avatar
KingOfDust: The short of it is that an update was released to SR4 some time after GooH was released. This update changed the savegame file format of SR4, rendering GooH unable to read them.

GooH was never patched to read the new SR4 savegame file format. Steam users who kept their old "pre-patch" savegames can still use those, but anyone with a fully patched SR4, Steam or GOG, has this issue.
Thank you.
The installer has just been updated. According to its changelog, game options should now save normally.

Updated through Galaxy and I can confirm that the issue is gone. Gameplay options and keybindings now save as they should.

Thank you for the confirmatiuon as well. Then I guess I won't evcen have to start to fiddle with the packed files after all (did not have the time yet). So let's download this ... again.
After the update AUTOSAVE works too without Galaxy (i tested it). So SR4 is finally playable for me.

Yay it works! :)
I updated SR4 to v12199 but it's still not saving the game options. What else needs to be done to fix this problem?

There seems to have been a small patch released today with the version numbers "12178->12199", but I think it's just some language related stuff.

Don't know if there was an "offline" patch released for the game options fixes. If you haven't reinstalled the whole thing with the 20170522 installers (or the newer 20170523), that might explain it.

Note that I'm not sure because I'm using Galaxy and didn't bother to check yesterday if they offered a patch or just a newer installer.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that the file containing the user-selected options is right in the game's root directory, so if you've installed the game in Program Files, you might need to run it "as administrator".

Can't really see any other reason why it wouldn't work. At least not without some additional information.

I redownloaded the whole installer to get v12199, but unfortunately it still has the Options bug.

That's what I did but the Options still aren't saving. Did you have to edit the save file?

Did it create the file "sr3DEF_PROFILE" in the game folder?

I looked in the game directory but I didn't see it listed. But I did reinstall the game from scratch. Do I have to do something else to get this file created?

Normally not. The file should be created after starting the game for the first time since it is the file that is saving the options. I will upload my file for you so you can see if this would help you. Just a moment.
