When I or my brother try to play a LAN game of Sacrifice (his is a Soldout edition of the game and mine is a GOG edition) neither game has the LAN multiplayer mode selectable - its greyed out.
Anyone got any idea why this is when the network (wireless) is setup and connected?
Also is it possible to play TCP/IP with each other when we are both on the same network - ergo same IP address?

That doesn't sound right.
For the outside world (internet), both computers may have the same IP address (I'm guessing both computers are behind a router), but on your local network your ip addresses should not be the same.

Ahh well then chances are they are different, I never checked (just made an assumption) but even when using my IP address to host a game my brothers laptop would simply not find it. I am thinking that there is something that I am overlooking - I know ports are often spoken about but I have no idea what or how to control them.
Rest assured, the LAN mode is missing for me as well, so it's not a unique problem.
And indeed, you CAN play over TCP/IP with your brother (at least if you both connect to the internet (share the connection); I don't know howit plays out if only you're on-line). I myself used to play TCP/IP with my bro. Heck, we even made Hamachi pseudo-LANs, even though we had a real one :-). Somehow, it was more reliable.
Sacrifice only seems to support IPX LAN. From the manual, under "Local Area Network Game (LAN)":
Players should make sure that the IPX protocol has been successfully installed under windows.
As far as I know, the IPX protocol isn't enabled by default on XP. It doesn't exist at all on Vista.
If you're both on XP:
Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Local Area Connection -> Properties -> Install
Select "Protocol", click "Add..." Select "NWLink IPX/SPX Netbios compatible" and click "Ok". It might ask you to reboot, if so, then reboot. You should be good to go.
For Vista 32-bit, this might work....
Otherwise, you'll have to find a way to play over TCP/IP.
Many thanks for that info Zam - I will give it a try and see how things go. I am on vista (32bit) and I think my brother is on the same, but will have to check
