I've run up and down the mine a couple of times, and I can't find the *&?%$ switch. I've been out the far entrance and seen the portal pad, but the quest arrow points me back into the dungeon. Anyone got a slight hint where I need to go? Is it near the entrance, somewhere in that big water-filled cave, or futher back in the mines?
I just kinda want to finish the game. Exploring it in all its freakin' richness is not really the priority... I just want to find that last element!
It's in that water filled cave under the mines, the one with all the gargoyles and ghosts. The switch is at the far left in a little enclosed area. Once you're down there, you should just be able to follow the quest arrow straight to it with only the occasional detour around the water.
Graaaah -- so I find my way down to the water-filled caves (the entrance is up past the Dark Elf smithy or whatnot, right?). The quest arrow is no help at all: it points north-northwest, while the switch is south-southeast, all the way down at the bottom of the level. It looks like a few gears set on top of a crypt, yes?
I pull the thing, the hand disappears (meaning I can't pull it again), I find another set of stairs up next to these gears, go up them, and ... I'm outside. On the wrong side of a now-locked gate that I can't open to go back down to the dungeon.
The game's been pretty straightforward so far, but this whole Zhorad-Nar dungeon deal is a huge pain in the tuchus.
If you've already activated the dam switch (yes, those gears are the correct ones), go to that area which was earier flooded and a man is standing nearby. Now you can cross that area.
Arrgh! Activated switch. Wandered around. Found and killed a DRAGON, but still. no. element. I'm going crazy here.

I'm sorry Shepherd but the princess is in another ca... erm.. the element is in another dungeon.
Head south along the river. Back to the guy who first told you about the switch. There's a land bridge there, use it to cross the river, and enter the ruins you find just on the other side.
This one is very very small and straightforward, so no running around forever.
I think I broke the game -- there's no land bridge, and no guy told me about the switch in the first place. If I follow the river from the dungeon entrance, I hit an impassable waterfall. Definitely no land bridges.
I've wandered all around the area, and cleared a few mini-dungeons of cave fish and spiders over to the west, and a dungeon of slavers/mercenaries as well. To the south leads back to the big portal and Highmarsh. To the east, rivers and more rivers.
My quest compass just points west-northwest no matter where I go; there are no gold books on my map to provide quest location hints (which is how I got to Zhorad-Nar in the first place, IIRC. Every time I enter a dungeon, the quest compass suddenly points north-east, but returns to west-northwest when I leave the dungeon.

Here is description of what you have to do and where you must go in this quest. I hope this will be of help. (If the page loads but the pics don't show, just reload the page.)
Sorry, I forgot about the fact that there was a huge cliff in the way. Details, details. :)
I've uploaded a little map which I hope helps (follow the red line). For future reference, DrIstvaan linked a couple excellent maps in this thread.

AH HA HA HA HA THAT DID IT. Thank you SO MUCH. I hadn't talked to the peat cutter before entering the dungeon, and that completely screwed up the "gold book" icons on the map, and the quest arrow, so that I had no idea where to go or what to do except "find the element in the dungeon of Zhorad-Nar" or whatever it says in the Log.
