Hi, i was just wondering if anyone has this on steam and if you know a fix.

When I try to load the game for the first time it crashes. I think it is trying to load an old physixs driver but it cant install it since I have a newer one installed. But thats just a guess.

So, it starts to load, but never loads the game, then crashes.

You've probably checked the Steam forums for any ideas about PhysX. The latest drivers are available at http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.14.0702-driver.html although I can't guarantee this is a solution.

A brief check of the Steam forum suggest to attempt to run the game itself in compatibility mode. You'd need to right-click on the game shortcut to change the compatibility options. Set the game to run in XP Service Pack 2 as well as Run As Administrator. Try that first before downloading and installing the latest PhysX drivers.

Install the legacy PhysX driver. It can coexist with the newer drivers, and is needed for several games from that time period.
I had bought Sacred 2 on GOG quite a while back and could never get it to run. It would crash just like Losse said every time.

I tied re-downloading and re-installing. I tried all the different compatibility modes and nothing would work. I had given up until reading the forums today.

I downloaded the Legacy PhysX drivers that fe79 suggested and it works perfectly now!!! Thanks fe79!
I'm not sure what happened but I installed it again in a whim and now it works....

Sacred 2: Gold is very temperamental. Usually, the game loads without a problem. However, once in while, it may take up to 3 attempts to load the game, but the 3rd one ALWAYS works for me. :-)

I own this game on steam but it keeps crashing due to a memory leak as soon as it hits around 1.3-1,5Gb of RAM.

I was wondering if the GoG version of Sacred 2 Gold has the same issue or is it OK?

I'm running it on Win10 x64, i73770k, 16gb DDR3 and GTX970

It should be a Steam Issue, I never had this bug on old DVDs or GOG version. So, don't use Steam.

Actually it's a known issue with any 64bit OS and the game (according to official forums). Most of the problems were reported by CD users and it carried over to Steam as well... Hopefully more people will reply and confirm that GoG is actually free of this.

I'd buy it again in a second if it works.

Unfortunately, the memory leak issue isn't exclusively on Steam. Sacred 2 had this issue since launch years ago due to a rush job by the developer under pressure from the publishing company. Depending on which class you play, you can get 2-4 hours of gameplay before it simply crashes. The golden rule for any RPG is save often! ;-)

Many problems were fixed afterwards by Ascaron, including receive a ctd when using the monoliths. Since patch 1.34 there were no real problems anymore. However, with Ice & Blood new bugs were introduced and some old ones returned. Deep Silver did nothing to fix it, since they took over the franchise after Ascaron filled in for bankruptcy. Latest patch was 1.65.2 and only fixed a problem with the chat window.
I have the dvd version myself of both Sacred 2 and the expansion. Played it without any crashes and that was with the vanilla version, patched up to 1.65.2. Played then with a high elf, seraphim, dryad and a temple guardian.
Not sure which version that of GoG is.
