My Shift key is not working at all. It's supposed to change the elevation of scenery, but when I press and hold it, nothing happens and the scenery just drifts around like usual. The key itself is not broken (as you can see from the fact that I'm capitalizing stuff here).

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, thinking the custom scenery were the problem. But the issue remains the same. The tutorial is capable of elevating scenery, so why can't I?

e: All other keyboard shortcuts work, but not CTRL.

Shift doesn't elevate the scenery, but only the object you're placing on the current tile. To zoom in and out use Page up and Page down.
I know exactly how the game works. I know that when you are building scenery, you can hold SHIFT to raise the object you are about to place, and all that. My problem is that SHIFT is not doing what it's supposed to be doing anymore.

Sorry for being unclear.
Sorry for misunderstanding, I thought you might have mixed up zoom and object elevating.
Have you installed any mouse utility software or any special keyboard setup? Is it a laptop?

It's a laptop with a mouse, and it has always worked. Then again, I haven't played it in a while. Still, I'm sure I didn't mess around with my keyboard or mouse before that.

So it worked like it should and now it doesn't. Hmm, have you aalready tried Shift and your touchpad for elevating instead of your mouse?
Tried that just now; nothing.

If nobody else has this problem, it must be my software. I'll look around elsewhere.

I've found someone else having this problem, but no solution, only a workaround:
... The shift and control key functions are acting weird. Normally I would just need to hover over a space and press desired key to have the function(s) work, but I need to hover over the space, press down the key, and then click with the mouse for the function to take effect. ...

Btw, have you tried both, left Shift / Ctrl and right Shift / Ctrl?

The mystery thickens.

It doesn't work in RCT1 too. True, its only function there is to close all floating windows when used with backspace, but that didn't work. So... I noticed that both icons had the floating blue and yellow Windows Shield that asked me administrator permission to start every time. That was new, around a week new. I had changed administrator permissions as a part of a virus scan thingy. So I decided to turn off administrator control, and...

it's working now. I don't know WHY administrator permissions would block me from elevating scenery in some random game, but there it is. Problem solved, while I am still left breathless at the stupidity of this problem, and the fact that the solution was even stupider.

What an adventure. 'gara out.

Hehe, thanks for letting us know! Might be helpful for someone.
How exactly did you "Turn off admin control" I can't seem to figure it out.

This was one of the ways I tried, but it did not solve the issue. I still cannot use shift to raise/lower scenery, and the Icon for the application still has the little blue and yellow shield on it.
