Got the disc version, and under Windows Vista after awhile if you alt tab/minimize the screen you cant return to playing the game. - it just seems to freeze - is this issue fixed with the GOG version, or am I just unable to play this game? (Loved it back when it was released)

Unfortunately, I recall you can't Alt+Tab out of GOG's version, either - but I'll need to check to be sure.

Well actually you can, but the explorer will be gone, and everything on your desktop or currently active is not working that well. So you'll have to open explorer.exe as a new process.
The other things like browser, music or anything else, you can access by right clicking on them.

I can't speak for Windows Vista, but I just wanted to add that it's working for the GOG version on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. No issues with the desktop either, everything intact and alt+tabs back and forth for me without a hitch.

What works for me is ctrl-Right clicking on the task bar. I play on windows 7, windowed mode.

I've been having a rather interesting issue in which I cannot click on anything while alt-tabbed. Unfortunately, this also seems to carry over to when I actually quit the game. When I close the game, I will actually have to relaunch it and close it again before anything on my desktop becomes clickable. This happened both on my desktop running Windows 7 64 bit and on my laptop running Windows Vista 32 bit.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Works perfectly in windowed mode with wine. :) Give it a try!

I play on Win 8.1 (WIndowed Mode): Alt+Tab and then right mouse click on the task bar

Works fine for me.
