Today I bought the RCT 2. First, the game worked perfectly.
After a while (while I was playing), the game stopped and I say the text 'rct.exe doesn't work anymore'.
This was very frustrating because I lost my game, but I decided to play again.

Then, I tried to save the game. First, I didn't get the save-screen, but after restarting the game I could finally save it. But, when I try to reload my saved game, the game freezes after 2 minutes. This happend everytime so I searched for this problem all around the internet.

This is what I tried, without success:
- open the 001 file -> I can load a saved game, but freeze
- turn only-read off
- administator mode
- I tried the windows XP windows 98 and windows me compatibility

After that I tried the DEP option. Remarkebly, in my RCT folder, I couldn't find a RCT.exe file. So for the DEP I added the game instead.

But now, after the trying of the DEP, my game doesn't start at all. A blue circkel keeps rotading and after that, nothing happend.

Moreover, I have a new laptop with Windows 8. My RCT game is installed on a external usb because my SSD is not so big. I bought RCT from GOG.

I hope somebody can help me and I'm sorry for my bad English.. ;-)

Since you're on Windows 8, try setting the game to 16-bit colour mode in the Compatibility tab in its properties.

Your USB might be a problem, too. Though you shouldn't be afraid to install RCT2 on your main hard drive, we're talking about a game that has less than half a gigabyte in size.

Remarkeble that you recommend to choose for the 16-bit. Most of the people at other topics recommend the 8-bit settings. I'm gonna try it immediately!

Yeah, I know. But actually I should use my laptop only for school things, haha. So I want the option that I could remove the game at any time without constantly intall and uninstall it.



I tried the 16-bit setting. But now my game stopped and I get the text 'RC2.exe doesn't work anymore' already when I click on the button 'continue playing a saved game'. I don't even get the opportunitie to select my saved game and open it..

I tried again to load my saved game. The game didn't freeze this time, but after 10 minutes I got this massage.

Exception Raised - Access Violation
Error Location: Unknown'

Then you should really install it to your hard drive. USBs are meant for storage, not active application runs.

I try it tomorrow, I'll let you know if it worked!

Today I installed RCT on mij ssd. I changed nothing at the settings, I started the game immediately after installing. (So I did not change the compatibility for example). Surprisingly, the game runs/saves and loads without any problems. But, only with the standard scenario parks. Later, I tried to make my own park and when I tried to save the landscape I got the same problem 'RCT.exe does not work anymore'.

Are you running the game as administrator still? This should not be happening.

Okay, so seeing as you've legally purchased and/or repurchased RCT2, why not give OpenRCT2 a go? Twice the fun with less than half the crashes!

I try now. When I click on save landschape, nothing happends.. :( I don't actually understand what this program is. Is this program made by RCT itself to fix any problems with the game?

OpenRCT2 is an open-source re-coding of RCT2. It's still in early days and requires either the full RCT2 game or the Triple Thrill Pack demo (linked on their website, OpenRCT2 bypasses its 1-hour limitation).

Okay, may I ask what you mean with re-coding? I'm sorry I don't have any knowledge of such things..
So if I download openRCT2 it fixes automaticlly my problems in the real RCT2 game?

It means they're trying to use a different programming language and incorporate the game into that. Once they have completely ported the game to the language, they can commence adding more substantial bugfixes.

At its current state, I can't tell you if it will definitely fix your particular problem. It may, it may not.

I am having a lot of problems too.
I have the game installed on a normal hard drive on Windows 10 Pro (64 Bit)
First time I started the game I played on the Alien park campaign for 1 and a half hours and clicked on the floppy disk, then on save and the game just crashed to desktop with no error message.
Today I clicked on load to see If there somehow was a save and got an exception error of some sort.

And one time I clicked on exit to close the game it just crashed with typical Windows message ( .exe isn't responding or something like that).

This is the first game I'm having major troubles with and I don't want to invest time just to have it crash again.
