I'm on the quest where you have to find the six vassal rings and so far I've only acquired 5. I've visited every ruin that Leon pointed me to and I still haven't found anything. I'm thinking I might have missed one on the northeast ruin where I read that I have to pull a chain to get to the undead lord but I checked that place for 5 minutes and only found a few secret areas with treasure.

One is in a cave on the way to the hunter couple's cabin, long rope bridge, etc. At least, that was the one that I couldn't find.

Just checked it - nothing. Do I need to complete this quest to beat the game?

I'm fairly certain it's a side quest.
It does sound like you may be missing the one near the gyger. It's been a while (and I was wrong about the cave - that was Lord Pastercron (or whatever his name is) and Leon already gave you his ring) but I believe there are two dungeons in that area (the northeast one near the gyger) - one that leads to the gyger and one down some steps with rings that open secret places (may be true in both) that leads to the ring owner. GoG apparently doesn't allow cut and pastes or I'd give you a website with a better description.

I remember having a hard time finding the 6th ring and doing Google searches - there is at least one detailed description out there.
