I'm having some trouble rebinding two keys in Risen, the quicksave and the quickload keys. I'm not sure why exactly the developers thought that it was a good idea (or at all necessary) to "lock" those two keys...but whatever. I've tried rebinding them using the "ConfigUser" document and the "keyboard and console" file, neither have worked though. I'm fresh out of ideas! Any tips or ideas are welcome...

Which ConfigUser document did you edit? I'm asking about its location.

The one in AppData/Local
Ok, and how did you rebind those keys? Also, did you restart your PC?

I changed the default key from F8 to whichever key I thought would work (IE: the / key, which is my preferred quicksave key, the - key, Enter, etc) and I added the value of 1 (which is supposed to "unlock" the key I believe). Once I added the value of 1 it did show a change in the in-game menu (it stopped showing F8, but didn't show the new key) but that was the only change.

Edit: I haven't reset my PC (yet).

Edit: I just fixed the issue, I had to add the value of 1 to both QuickSave AND QuickLoad. That makes sense I suppose.

So, it's working now? ;)

Yep, though I had to settle for the P key which is going to take some getting used to haha. This is my second playthrough of Risen, I played it for a few hours when I bought it last year and didn't like it that much and gave up on it. I've been getting bored with Skyrim lately and since there are so few open world 3D roleplaying games I decided to give Risen another chance and I'm liking it a lot more this time!
high rated
I had an easy time changing the quicksave from F8 to F5.
I edited the ConfigUser.xml file found in C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Risen in Windows 7

Key_F8="QuickSave_0"
I changed to
Key_F5="QuickSave_0"

simply change to 8 to a 5
and it shows up in the in-game options

I'm glad you had an easier time than I! I had to change the values and select a normal (IE: not a Function key) key. Anyway, I solved it myself earlier but I'll go ahead and mark your post as the solution since you detailed the file location and the process!

I just realized that you didn't intend to use a "Fx" key. I'm glad you got it working.
